    Default ASUS EEEPc 1005HA

    Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a little netbook for my trip to europe later this year.

I have been looking to import a 1000HE form the USA but learnt that the warranty is only valid in the country of purchase, which makes is useless as a travel laptop since if it goes wrong, I will be netbookless for the remainded of my trip.

SO, my focus has now shifted to the 1005HA which DOES come with a global warranty.

Has anyone played with one of these? Experiences?

    Thanks in advance!

i got a first gen eee700, i sold it to a mate and bought a 900 with a 30gig HDD, first thing i did was pull the HDD and put in a solid state replacement, it's a bit faster and uses less power.
the 900 has a 900mhz processor but the 1000/1005 have the 1.6ghz atom cpu which should be fine for what you'll be doing. mine greys out firefox on heavy pages.
i'd stick with xp on it, or even linux if you get it going fine before leaving, there are custom distros tailored to it.
if you do use xp, nlite it to cut down on useless bits, i got mine down to about 300mb and it installed to about 3 gig of disk space.
i wouldn't use it for typing a massive essay, but for browsing, uploading, mailing it's sweet.
this site's got model reviews, a wiki and forums, so it's a good starting block

the custom distro i use is eeebuntu, comes with everything you need out of the box.

    Thanks for the info guys,

Devils_Thunder, thanks for the heads up but the main reason I'm looking at the 1005HA is the 10.5 hour battery life.

pow3rslave, very useful thanks. I have to look into this nlite some more.

    Oh brilliant! Thanks powerslave!

Juztin, yeah I have found the 1000HE is a few spots here... only difference is here they are about 800 bux and I could get it from the states for 550 after shipping! lol

    Same deal with the 1005HA.
