    Default wireless internet coverage?

well im currently with telstra and being slugged for heaps for their internet, and regular donations of going over, im looking at going for a plan/prepaid one that has coverage in my area (it says that 3 doesnt, but my sister has one and it works ok, but wayyyy slower than telstra)

what other towers are there that arent piggybacking, i chose telstra coz they are faster and more coverage, but now im sick of paying a fortune for it.

i was lookin at adam and internode wireless, but wonderin whether they have the same coverage as 3? or better, anyone got one

I got 3 3G wireless when i lived in Canberra City, I then moved to the suburbs .. where the website said i would have full coverage only to find i had 1 reception bar. It was shit slow, slower than 56k dialup.
I had a massive shit fight with 3 about it and eventually got out of my contract with a smaller termination fee.
So i would be very cautious about 3, make sure they check you get coverage first, they are useless to deal with as far as customer service goes, and the woman who i had to talk to about termination was a mega biyatch about it.
So be wary of 3 for wireless net.

P.S. 3 has poor coverage. only ok in major cities. i read somewhere that 3 only effectively provides service to like 9% of the country. vs Telstra being around 90%...
I wouldnt use telstra though - the fees are fkn criminal

totally agree wid u mate, my sisters 3 does work BUT slow as, and sometimes doenst work at all, but i like telstra coz there speed and reliability, but i spose coz theres no-one like em they can charge wat they like, unless theres a piggy backer on telstra tht i can get?

so youd say in a fairly suburban place that its good a decent speed? (from what youve seen)

I'm with Exetel for my wireless internet.

I'm on the west side of Brisbane in the hills so coverage can be a bit patchy, as the closest optus tower is around 3km away from my place, but overall its pretty good.

Download speeds range from 100KB/s to 500KB/s so thats more than enough for what I need it for, which is for consulting work at home and vpn into my office in the city.

I'm not on a plan - I purchased the usb modem from Exetel for $195 and they charge me a rate of 1.5c per megabyte for the first 1 gig, then 2.5c per megabyte thereafter. The best bit about it is you only pay for what you use and I'm not tied on a contract, so as I'm away from home for half the time, my monthly internet bills are only $10-$15.

I've got the same one. Works excellent where there is optus coverage.
My Modem cost $145.00 and then I pay $5.00 per month access fee (for exetel to use optus's network). Then 1.5c Per MB up to 1GB and then 2.5c Per MB past 1GB.
So to download 1GB it works out to about $20.00 Per Month. Excellent value compared to a lot of other wireless providers.
