    Default Accidentally deleted sound driver....

Was going through all my unused programmes, and doing a bit of spring cleaning. I deleted some program called VIA HD Audio Deck. After that all the sound stopped working, nothing coming out of the speaker or headphones. I did a bit of research on the net and found out that I must have deleted a sound driver, but how do I get it back? I've gone through some of the windows cd's and can't seem to find one that has sound card drivers on it. Just wondering if anyone knows where to get them from, without having to pay for them once you download a program and it does 3/4 of what you need then asks you to give them money. Cheers

If you have your motherboard driver disk, use that. Second option is try doing a windows update, they usually have drivers for random hardware. Otherwise go to you computers manufacturer's website, type in the model and get the sound driver from there.

What's the make and model of your computer?

    . Import driver components
    (1) Copy all the files to a directory, e.g. "D:\VIADRIVERS\VIAHDUAA190a\".
    (2) Create a directory, e.g. "D:\VIA_Repositories\", if there is
    none.
    (3) Open Component Database Manager under Microsoft Windows
    Embedded Studio
    .
    (4) Click on the "Repository" and then "Repository Roots..." buttons.
Type in the complete path of the repositories directory,
for example "D:\VIA_Repositories\". Click on the "Add" button
    and answer "Yes".
    (5) Click on the "Database", "Import...", and then "..." buttons.
    Navigate to directory "D:\VIADRIVERS\VIAHDUAA190a\" and
then choose the .SLD file. Next, pull down "Repository root"
drop-down and select "D:\VIA_Repositories\". Click on the
"Import" and then "Close" buttons to close the dialog.
    (6) Close the "Component Database Manager".

Have downloaded several versions of the program and none of them have done the job, either I have got the wrong ones or I am no good at installing them. I think I'll just call microsoft and see if they can help me over the phone. Cheers for all the help

Microsoft are useless at that and they might charge you for it. Just let me know what is the make and model of your computer, or is it a custom built?

Uh I have gone into system properties, and this is what it says:

Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

    Computer: Intel(R)
    Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHZ.

    Is that what you need?

No that's not it. Is this a branded computer, like DELL or HP? Or did someone build it for you?

Take a picture of you computer. If it is a custom built then take a high res picture of your motherboard (take the side cover off) and i'll work it out.

Ok so your Mother Board's model is Gigabyte GA-VM900M.

This is the right driver for that motherboard (assuming you have: Windows XP, and you do not have another sound card (could not see one)): http://Asia.giga-byte.com/FileList/D..._via_hypro.exe

Otherwise this is the page for it: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...t=xp#anchor_os

Try this first if it still does not work than it's not your driver but could be a setting.

Also buy yourself some cans of compressed air and get all that dust out between the CPU Fan, otherwise there is not enough cooling (don't use vacuum cleaner!).

He uninstalled it, which means he deleted the files. System restore does not restore files you've deleted, only settings.
