Hey,
Is there something like driver detective but free?
Ive been having some driver related problems and i cant "acquire" a full copy of driver detective. But i scanned with the free version and im missing 6 drivers and 4 are out dated..
what problems are you having? those programs are always going to report problems because they want you to purchase the software. i know that my computer is perfectly fine, but i once did a 'scan' of my computer just to see what it would say, and check this out:
that is absolute bullshit. not that i need to go into every one, but startup bottlenecks... i manually configure what runs on startup using msconfig, and i've disabled nearly everything. so it's just complete bullshit really. do a fresh install of xp with no devices attached and no software installed - i bet it'll still say you've got problems.
any drivers it uses will be available somewhere on the net for free anyway, so maybe we'll be able to help you out![]()
yer ok thanks,
Im having problems woth my sound.. and by problms i mean i have none..
since i downgraded from vista to xp about 18 months ago ive had problems, i fixed it by installing sound drivers from a different machine, but i got windows errors about sound and got sick of it so i uninstalled it and installed the correct drivers from the Toshiba website, but i still had nothing, so i uninstalled them and tried installing the ones from the other machine on it, but its telling me its an older version and wont let me so now i have no sound..
But im having other problems like nero wont detect my Cd/dvd drive as a burner, just a writer, and ive tried many different nero versions and other software, but if i re-install it works once then it wont work again or somthing like that,
i cant run chkdsk and i have an empty folder i can delete which is on my desktop so i get a system popup saying to run dskchk because theres a problem, but when i try to run chkdsk it says "windows was unable to complete the disk check" straight away..
On startup i get lots of things coming up asking if ide like to connect to windows live updates to find the correct drivers or somcrap...
I think ill just do a fresh install....
Is there a way i can backup all my windows updates so when i re-install XP i dont have to re-download em all?
Im runnng Xp sp3What operating system are you running?
sounds like it's reformat time, that's the easiest thing. unfortunately you can't back up the updates though, but yeah i'd give that a shot first.
Im trying to back up all my stuff, but when i plug my external HD into the compiter i just get "usb device not recognised"
Now ive got it to be recognised in Device manager as "usb mass storage device" but it isnt showing in my computer...
i use Driver Genius. its really good and easy to "acquire"

I second this. I recently bought a printer and a 3m USB printer cable to go with it. Took it home and installed all the software and drivers on the computer then connected the printer to my computer via the USB cable only to get an error. I then tried it on another machine and got the exact same problem. Swapped the cable over to an older 2m USB printer cable I had lying around and works no problems. I should probably get back to that computer shop (MSY) and let them know that that particular printer will not work with the 3m cable they sold me.
