    Angry Mininova Shuts down

    Quote Originally Posted by Website

    Hi all,

Today is an important day in the history of Mininova. From now on, we are limiting Mininova.org to our Content Distribution service. By doing so, we comply with the ruling of the Court of Utrecht of last August.

Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on. We are still considering an appeal at this moment.

We launched our Content Distribution service in 2007. This service allows producers and artists to easily publish and distribute their content for free through Mininova. The launch of Content Distribution has proven to be a success. Countless content owners have used Content Distribution to distribute their content (e.g. albums and documentaries) for free to millions of users. For example, the Dutch band Silence is Sexy released their complete album on Mininova and received the Interactive Award 2009 for doing so. The Dutch television broadcaster VPRO decided to start using Content Distribution in 2009 in order to distribute documentaries.

We would like to thank you for your support. Especially everyone that contributed to Mininova receives a big “thank you!” for the effort! We hope to keep welcoming you on Mininova and our other projects (e.g. Snotr, Dispostable).

    Thanks! The Mininova staff

lol piratebay is owned by an anti-piracy company, if that doesn't bother you then nevermind

ah, i guess that explains the immense amount of illegitimate software on there then. why would it bother anyone anyway?

So good all these public tracker leech sites are closing down. The quicker the scene goes back to private trusted users, the better. Torrent sites are a joke.

Its a shame. But not the first time a hugely popular torrent site has kicked the bucket. Anyone remember suprnova? it came back after long while, but sucked.

The piratebay is due to shut its doors any day. I dont know how its still operating.. I suspect some sort of ligitation is still in the works that has stonewalled the police from seizing the servers.

and isohunt has been accused of logging info once or twice. Not sure if its true. but still weary of it.

demoniod has been doing for 'maintenance' for months. if it comes back, it will be a shell of its former self.

But i suspect a couple of the smaller sites will spring forward to fill the gap.

########'s always down haha. they had that massive legal dispute, i think that was a few months, then it came back up so i used it for a bit, now it's down again and i think it's had the same maintenance page up for a couple of months now? not even sure. ######## was REALLY good at one point in time, shame it's falling to bits now.

The maintenance page has been up since around August, but it has been updated in the past few weeks with what you see now.

I acutely received a call from my internet provider today. Asking me about a album that i downloaded the other night. (I played the stunned mullet) They had received a call from a US company that was tracking the torrent and traced it to my house. I have an unsecured wireless network so i had to play that card. But i just can't believe that it was tracked and i was given a WTF call.

Wow. That actually called you. When i was with netspace they sent me a letter or 2.

Atm, im intensely watching the iiNet vs AFACT legal battle unfold. Hoping AFACT gets reamed good. For those that dont know, AFACT is the aussie riaa/mpaa and their sueing iiNET (but not telstra or optus) for not passing on infringement notices/disconnecting users.

I'm pretty sure your ISP won't give a shit who was downloading, it was your account, therefor you are responsible.

LOL, yeah try blaming your neighbour for downloading kiddy porn when the cops come a knocking. I'm sure that will stand up in court.

Yeah now that i go back and read through the torrent file there are people starting to write about receiving warnings and phone calls about it. I must say i have let my guard down for it. Installed windows 7 a few months ago and neglected to re-install my firewalls. That changed last night......

On a side not Creeds new Album..... Really god.... HAHAHAHAH
