what are people preffered/recommended antivirus programs.
i currently run Mcafee which is shit. when the virus scan starts it takes all the PC resources and it runs slow as. previously run Norton but costs a fortune and not that happy with it either.

Yeah same here AVAST FTW.. Had Mcfee crap before and computer crashed. Mate fixed it and when he plugged my hardrive into his computer to scan with avast it went ape shit something like 55 trojans and spyware running round..
So now run advast and has picked up a few things.
I run a business and run Trend Micro, and is brilliant it warns about suspect sites before you view them, i have used Norton and AVG and this is far better.
Avast is the best, easily... AVG Turned to shit when it changed hands, All it does is **** up... Go with Avast
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
That's strange, I run Mcafee on 3 machines and don't have any resource issues. Could depend on your hardware though. The only reason I run it is because it came with my dell lappy and to extend to another 2 licenses was only a small amount.
The only real issue I have is despite it doing updates to the package it never seems to get the latest core package when I check the version numbers. It had a problem with win7 on one machine, but not on the lappy, go figure. A reinstall fixed it though.
+1 for AVG
never had a virus with it..
and if macafee was making everything run slow you should remove it from start up..
just go to run and type 'msconfig'
you can remove it from there
Whats a Virus ? lol Anyway found AVG good. Norton seems to take up to many resources along with windows lol
Another Avast user, been using it for ages with no dramas.
Even works happily with windows 7.
i've been a ca user for the last couple of years had no problems. the best i've used so far
+1 for avast. free, doesnt drain too much system memory, updates automatically at least once per day.
Ill be different i use Microsoft security essentials, was part of the beta, never found a virus it cant catch even on my GF's pc.
She likes to click the CLICK ME TO WIN popups :P
I run AVG free, Spybot, & a-squared.
Each one picks up on things the others don't.
Peerblock gets run as well when anyone else uses my pc
AVG FTW+++
AVG Free doesn't scan for rootkit viruses.
AVG Professional does include scanning of rootkit viruses.
Also another free program to use is Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org).
Run a full scan with that and you will be suprised at what it finds.

its free and it isnt a pig that gets in your face all the time. id reckon m$ might know a thing or two about making av software for their os.
I'm running Avira Preimum Suite at the moment. I like it. Very light and effective.
Used to run AVG but I found it slowed down my PC.
Also another program I have used was bitDefender, but that did let a few nasties slip through.
