    Default Recommend anti-virus software help

what are people preffered/recommended antivirus programs.

i currently run Mcafee which is shit. when the virus scan starts it takes all the PC resources and it runs slow as. previously run Norton but costs a fortune and not that happy with it either.

what programs do you guys use/recommend.

    thanks

Here in SA I saw Norton for $38 for one license or $94 for three advertised in the Harvey Norman catalogue. Not as expensive as I thought it was. I just bought a new laptop and it has Norton on it and it doesn't seem too bad. Before this I used AVG Free Version.

That's strange, I run Mcafee on 3 machines and don't have any resource issues. Could depend on your hardware though. The only reason I run it is because it came with my dell lappy and to extend to another 2 licenses was only a small amount.

The only real issue I have is despite it doing updates to the package it never seems to get the latest core package when I check the version numbers. It had a problem with win7 on one machine, but not on the lappy, go figure. A reinstall fixed it though.

    +1 for AVG
never had a virus with it..
and if macafee was making everything run slow you should remove it from start up..

just go to run and type 'msconfig'
you can remove it from there

Having Norton is almost as bad as having a virus.

I run Eset Nod32. Considering the amount of crap (jokes/porn) that we send around at work, it's kept all the computers virus free.

    I run AVG free, Spybot, & a-squared.
Each one picks up on things the others don't.
Peerblock gets run as well when anyone else uses my pc

    AVG FTW+++
AVG Free doesn't scan for rootkit viruses.
AVG Professional does include scanning of rootkit viruses.

Also another free program to use is Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org).
Run a full scan with that and you will be suprised at what it finds.

I'm running Avira Preimum Suite at the moment. I like it. Very light and effective.

Used to run AVG but I found it slowed down my PC.

Also another program I have used was bitDefender, but that did let a few nasties slip through.
