I've been an Apple user since I was 6. Our first Mac was an SE-30, I grew up with Apple IIe's at school. I'm writing this post on a MacBook Pro.
My point is that to some I'd be considered an Apple fan-boy (though I don't have an iPhone, nor do I want one). With that clearly acknowledged, I will freely admit this product is completely pointless, targeted squarely at people with more dollars than sense.

I have to agree, if it comes out i'd like to try it out but don't know if i'd get one, seems pretty pointless as my iTouch can do the same (but smaller screen). My MacBook Air does well for being an ultra portable
...and yes i'm an Apple fanboy i'll admit that.
Although i think iPad will find it's way into schools as it seems like a great educational device that is easy to use, although a bit pricey.
Another Product People with think is useless cause it only has a USB port, But SOme people do need them, I Love them, so Light and can walk around holding it all day. of course no use to me. If you did alot of onsite work for sure.
I Got a Mac Pro, Expensive but the processing power is amazing, 8 Core 2.8Ghz And 64GB RAM Support, 4 Video Card Support for 8 30" HD Displays, Wish i had the money for the displays lol. Also use a Mac Mini for my Media Center for TV & Server. And The missis's MacBook & Mine lol And She is amazed I dont play video games lol.
Anyone out there got an Apple TV? I'm considering one to replace my aging Xbox as a media centre (original Xbox) which struggles to play H.264 encoded video.

Tbh, its not the device for me, but I think it'll do fairly alright. Personally, I'd never buy one simply because its bigger than an iPod Touch/iPhone, yet its not as powerful and fully-featured as a laptop. I've been following the rumours about the Apple tablet for quite a while, and to be honest I am a bit disappointed that it not only runs the iPod/iPhone OS, rather than Mac OS X, but also has absolutely nothing in common with a Macintosh at all, meaning that you're locked into buying software from the App Store. While thats a good thing in its own way, I think with a device such as the iPad, I'd want a bit more flexibility. Really, for me its a bit like a netbook....its bigger than a mobile phone or media player or whatever (and therefore less convenient), but not as fully featured or as powerful as a laptop.
Regardless of all that, however, I think it'll find its niche, and it probably will do very well. I'm not going to say anything I may regret - when the original iPod came out in 2001, I remember saying that there is no way in Hell I'd pay up to $900 (from memory) for an MP3 player. Then when the iPhone came out in 2007, I remember saying the same thing about a phone that didn't even support MMS. This time, I'm just going to keep my mouth shut.
Either way, I wish them the best of luck with it....but for now, I'll hang onto my MacBook.
Don't know why people criticise a device for something it's not. No it does not have this, no it does not have that, bla bla bla. It's not supposed. That does not make it a bad device you just don't have use for it but someone else thinks "well this is exactly what i want". You wouldn't criticise a car for only having 2 doors when YOU prefer 4its not supposed to have 4 doors, it was designed to only have 2.
I'm not rantingjust thinking out loud.
Of course it will do well. We know full well there are people out there that will buy it because its an Apple product. People were putting down preorders without even knowing what it was...
Yeah...I wasn't really bagging it, I think its a great device in its own way, and I think it'll go on to be a big success, just like the iPod and iPhone...just that its not for me.![]()
There are a few things putting me off the Mini. It's about $500 more than the Apple TV, and its o****ill for what I want to do.
I realise the Apple TV is quite restrictive in what it can play out the box, but under the hood its actually just a slimmed down version of OSX, and people have figured out how to hack into it and add extra codec support (you've probably got Perian on your Mini? Well you can install that Quicktime plugin on the ATV and add all the format support that provides). You can also install XBMC, which is what I use on the Xbox, and that supports almost anything you can throw at it.

I think it will be to underpowered with hardware but mostly the limited iPhone OS.
If it were a Macbook with no keyboard then i would consider one.
Feeling confident as i just purchased a macbook.
