Just wondering if the above can be done? Building a new system and I want to run a ssd boot drive but 90% are 2.5"
Yep, If its sata connectors you have, will just work mate, You will notice a massive performance increase with it. well worth the cash :-)
+1 thats the go, just buy adapters from almost anywhere..
What is your new system?
Cheers.

Cool, yeah I knew it would plug in but was the mounting issue. I'm on my phone so i'll post system specs tomorrow. Cheers all.
I think the thread heading should read
Converting Internal 2.5" drive to 3.5"
You can't physically reduce the drive down to a 2.5"
You can however get a 2.5" to 3.5" conversion kit.
It comes with the brackets to install a 2.5" drive into a 3.5" bay as well as all the relevent cables that you will need.
Something like 2.5in to 3.5in adapter bracket, lets you mount 2.5in HDD/ SSD in 3.5in bay, comes as a pair

I think thats what he meant or he would have said converting internal drive (impossible) from 2.5 to 3.5.. but he said from 3.5 to 2.5 using a 2.5" ssd..

I have an SSD In MineVery Very Happy!!! You can get adapter which screw onto the side of the 2.5" and then it brings the width to the same as a 3.5" drive Simple. All SSD's AFAIK are Sata, imagine and IDE SSD LOL. But good work going with the ssd, Which one did you get?

Title fixed.
New setup is as follows;
Items already purchased
*Thermaltake Armor + chassis
*ASUS P7P55D-E Premium mobo
*Pioneer BDR-205 Blu-ray burner
*Enermax revolution 85+ 1250w PSU
*Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 sata II 1.5tb hdd (coming out of my current setup)
Items to come
*128gb SSD (waiting for the sata III units to come out)
*Seagate Barracuda XT sata III 2tb hdd
*Intel i7-860 cpu
*Graphics card (waiting for the direct x11 nvidia units)
*Corsair dominator 8gb DDR3 kit
*Thermaltake Prowater 850i water cooling kit
Nice system specs mate, EXCEPT the Thermaltake water kit.... a better kit form option would be either a Swiftech kit or the Corsair H50.
Im pretty sure that theres a few SSD's shipping now with 2.5 > 3.5" adapters in the box.
I know there are better kits out there, I did plenty of research. Only reason I was going with that kit is for a first timer it intergrated into the chassis very easy as it was designed for it.
I have however just been informed the chassis I ordered/paid for is no long available so back to the drawing board there.
Lol, it's no longer available but we will sell it to you anywayBut yeh, nice system, will fly. Another case to look at are the Antec's, the 1200 is a really good case, heaps of room cooling out the backside (which you would need really as you've got the water cooling kit) I have a P182, I would recommend any of the P range cause they are really quiet, especially with water cooling

Yeah they say they are in stock but clearly they order direct from TT rather then keep sock on hand.
