pffft anyone who buys windows 7 is a nub.

what do you mean "i sent it home" as-in you emailed it? and what do you mean "its gone"? as-in the email never arrived? or are you using internet exchange server, saved in a remote server and it didnt save in the remote directory?

if it was edited in word 3 then word 7 will open it no probs cos' all versions of word are backwards compatible, but if it was the other way round it will be a problem.

anyone who runs windows is a nub. I switched to mac a year ago and never looked back, however I did use windows for many years and vista is by far the worst, windows 7 is a lot more solid.

    files don't vanish lol.

Alright, yes i sent it home in an email, opened it up from my hotmail account and finished it off, but it was in "capability mode" becuase of the updated version of microsoft word i have basiccaly it means they are compatable and doesnt change the formatting i think. Whenever you save it in capability mode the files litterally do not save. LOL i personally hate mac computers and its not windows 7 its vista using microsoft word 2007

Vista is shocking, go back to XP. I said i would only upgrade from XP when something good come along.

To the OP.. What was the file name you saved it under ?, Do a search for it.

im not sure if what i understand from what you written is correct, but to my knowledge, if you open an email attachment and continue working in it then press save it is pretty much lost in most instances.

lol, you failed instantly. switching to MAC=DFU

anyways, OP you sure hotmail didnt mess up the scan? it scans each file b4 you email it with macafee (which is almost as fail as mac) so sometimes it dumps files without warning. also you remember that hotmail generally has a 2.0Mb limit to sent files? i would be looking back at your source PC for the file and back up to disk rather than trust an email source.

P.S. im a gamer and hardcore windows user since 3.11 ad there is nothing wrong with vista release 3 as long as you are not a DFU (dumb f..king user)

If you are going to use Windows, use XP or Windows 7. Vista is just horrid, the new WinME! I refuse to support it if people bring laptops to school with it on. Just say "nope, you're on your own with that."

I stopped using windows when I switched from Win 3.11 to OS/2 warp beta. Used Warp till 1998 when I switched to Linux. I've reinstalled once in 12 years, to move to 64bit, I just keep copying it to bigger hard drives and move the HDDs to new hardware when I upgrade my pc..

If you resend the .doc from work again, try "save as" instead of save. You could also use Openoffice(it's free!) to open and save it.

nah its easy to find. open program/new document... type in it ghasglfkjagbfhlkjfhlsabfl then click save as, find out what the path and file name of save as is (i.e c:/user666/documents/mystuff/blah) then go to that folder and check out every file in there.

Yes, yes, yes and no. I didn't say he should buy it because he lost a file I just said Vista is a POS and XP or Win7 are by far, far better OSs. Up to him if he buys it.

I did say that if anyone brings Vista to the school I Sys/Net admin at they won't get any support from me.

I also gave a couple of hints that he could try if he sent it home again..

So, what's your problem anyway? What was the almost incoherent rant about? Just upset that someone said Vista is a POS? Can't handle the truth?

Just search your entire hard drive and subfolders for *.doc and *.docx files and sort by date modified.

I run XP at work and Vista at home and never had any issues between Office 2003 and 2007.

I have never had any problems with Vista either. Either you guys run slow computers, play games, or fark around with the OS too much.

I'd never switch to mac, all my engineering software doesn't have mac support.

Not sure if office has this feature as i don't use it, but can you open recent documents? it should list any documents that you have recently worked on.
