For years, I have used various versions of Word for documents, letters etc. Every version, including the latest one, has the same fault when typing the date.
If I type the date such as "1 March 2010" for example, it automatically appears as "1 March 2010-03-01". Does anybody know how to get rid of this default so that the date just appears as I type it?
Odd, mine doesn't change it.

fix the date settings... you can also adjust it in the page setting... simple fix. check the help file it will detail with mr clippy.
and here i thought somebody was finally going to say the real issue with word was that it's another shitful stinking microshit program and that it should be burnt in hell with all ms products!
yes it's true... girls do drive manual v8's
Mine does it but it tells you "2010-03-27 (Press ENTER to insert)"
Press space bar after you type the date and it won't put it in there. If you want to go to the next line then press space then enter.
Easier said than done - ever tried to navigate through Word 2007? It's a bastard compared to earlier versions - very unfriendly. I finally found what I hope is the solution though, so thanks for the advice.
Hi Calaber, a lot of the time it is how your operating system is set up. During installation of windows, If you just let it run through and click on next each time it asks you something, then the default locale is the US, hence the date being weird. Office (all years) take the locale off the operationg system. You should be able to reset you locale to Australia without doing a reload. I think you will find that doing this will solve your problem. Cheers, Rossco
Thanks Rosso, and to the rest of you for your comments. I was able to sort it out after a while and reading the suggestions, so many thanks.
Now, a couple of other questions.
Why is there such a dislike of Microsoft programs? Unfortunately, owing to the fact that my previous employer used Microsoft Word and Excel for all letters, reports, documents and spreadsheets, etc, I sort of grew up with them and until striking W and E 2007, was very comfortable with them, apart from the minor hiccups like the default date referred to above. As for the new versions, I think they suck! Much harder to set up, customize etc.
Secondly, re that date default, it strikes me as a dumb way of setting out the date anyway. Why would you want the thing to default in such a way that the date was duplicated backwards, or rather, why would the yanks want their dates on documents to appear that way? It's bloody stupid!

microsoft products are so buggy and regardless of setup they all fail more often than words... to put it simple. ms products are for the kiddies that caused princess last friday. there are plenty of other products out there that are just as easy to use, and more stable.
my first computer was the good ol c64. but i too have sadly grown up around ms products and have never liked them, and funnily enough my work still use lotus notes, i did have a little chuckle to myself when i started there.
unless you experience the dark side you simply and sadly enjoy ms products coz you know no better
me having an I.T background just don't like it (yet i know plenty of people with the same background who do)... i only use it coz it's there and i have to for work.
