Telstra have a shocking customer service records, and have been known to pull some very dodgy stunts to get money out of people - personally I wouldn't go near them with a 30ft pole in most instances. They have some of the best infrastructure in the country, but their business ethic is lacking, and their products are uncompetitive.

You said yourself that you knkow nearly nothing about ADSL, what makes you so sure that those two are good providers? As others have said, they really have not a lot going for them. TPG are the best value for money reliability and customer service are not so great though. Also, iiNet are generally considered a good option.
Telstra survives ONLY because of the misconception that you have put forward. People know the name and assume that it is the best option. I have known countless people who have been paying double or more with telstra than they could get the same service for from a different provider, and every single time the answer when I ask why is, "Oh, they're Telstra, they must be pretty good, they're a big company."
If you aren't obligated to pay your way out of whatever connection you have now, you may want to investigate the alternatives. Just make sure you do your research before you agree to any contracts. Don't take a salesman's word![]()
TPG's customer service is like talking to a brick wall.. atleast with Telstra customer service you actually get people you can understand.. not being racist but its true.
