Hi fello gamers!
Wondering, if the PS3 can Run PS2 games OK?
I believe, i have the 40gig version.. Only just dug it back out
I've read it can, but not all games will work ?
Just wondering if this is true?
Thanks![]()
Yes, if 40 gig, should be able to do Ps2. THe newer models can only play Ps1. Ps2 is still on par with many of the new units from other companies consoles, they still run it at the same time to out compete against the others.
PS3 Games are really getting cheap now, so even if it cant, it wont matter.
yep that's true. there's plenty of games that do work, however some don't. best bet is to search up each individual game you want to play (or if you already have them, just give them a try). pretty sure i saw a list once
PS3 network goes better than the Xbox one plus it's free. Nearly all PS2 games will run on your original PS3 if it's the original one, there's a lists around. The latest OS runs almost all of them
no only the launch ps3 (60gb) back from 2006 can play ps2 games...every other model cant.. you can only download ps2 games from the psn network but can play disc's
ive got 3 ps3's 40gb which is now 120gb, 1 slim 320gb and another 120gb slimlol i think that will do me haha
Ohh.. I bought my ps3 on its 1st week of sale.. So, mine should be able to play ps2 games?
EDIT - just read your post.. hehe.. How cheap are the games to buy on ps3 network?
And how do i pay for them.. ?
Do I use Game Points like xbox or somthing?
Sorry for all the Q's lol
i got mine just after launch and it dosent work, you can try it its not gonna do any harm anyway
im pretty sure only the 60gb models can only play ps2 games
The Playstation network is great, not only is it free to use, but there are some free games and demo downloads.
'Sometimes' the PS2 games that wont work on your PS3, you can download patches for, to make them work.. sometimes.. lol
Also, there are updates for the PS3 itself, which can help it to run better, plus, even certain PS3 games need updates from the network first, before they will run properly..
Thats a bummer!!
Might have to buy the 60gig version...and give this one to a family member ;p.
I also hear, there is software you can download, but its not guaranteed to work, heard of this?
EDIT.. as soon as I posted, yours showed Bonez lol
Thanks!
Im guessing its time to find a ps2 game and hope for the best hehe
lol! No worries mate.![]()
I don't own a PS3 myself(yet.. lol), but a mate does, he got one of the very first series to come out.
I'm not actually sure weather it's to do with HD size, or the actual series of the console itself, as to which PS2 games will work or not?
But I was told the newer PS3 Slimline wont run some or most PS2 games?
I'd have to look it up..![]()
ps3 60gb version came with the ps2 software in built with them, thers no way to download a patch for it to make it work...the only chance is maybe hav linux installed... and also goodluck finding a 60gb version they are very rare, and aslo chase big bucks for em... any ps3 model after the launch 60gb will not play ps2 games... as they stopped putting in the software to save money for the company. as to this day they are still losing money making the ps3 console
im lucky as i own a original 2006 model 60gb PS3 which can play most PS2 games and i even bought a memory card reader so i could transfer my saved games over
but the 60gb model was only sold for a few months from its release back in 2006 as it cost $1000 it wasnt the cheapest thing to get so they dropped it but it cost so much back then because of the backwards compatible stuff and the various card readers (CF, SD/miniSD)
yeah i got one of the last fatty models 80gb has no backwards compatability, i just bought a ps2 to play on as well hehe they are only $99 now still love gt4, god of war 1&2, gta san andreas etc. Some great games comin out on ps3 this year just waiting for the prices to drop a little :P
none of my ps2 games work on my 40gb ps3. the 60gb has full reverse compatability. not too sure of the later models.

as you can see in the graph only the 60gb model that came to australia could and nothing else has the stuff to do it
In reference to your 'online' comment dumster, this guide is all you'll need to know.

Correct, I have a 60Gb original version and it plays my PS2 games without any problems while my kids 40Gb version will not play anything other than PS3 games. I have also been told that the original PS3 60Gb was modelled on the US version and does not have the anti-violence chip the later Aust models where fitted with, no sure how true this is???

yeh m8, once u organise your internet through the network settings just go to the psn icon on the menu which gives you a step by step guide to how to sign up etc
