Hey fellas,
Recently my Vista stopped working on me, whole computer would freeze up, then go to the BSOD ( blue screen of death) and id have to reboot to get it running again,
I did all the usual things, run scans, updated drivers, got the cards all checked from a PC technician, but still to no avail,
Then the problem just got worse, it wouldnt even load up past the safe mode option screen,
So i thought bugger it, ill go to XP
Wiped all my shit, got an XP disc, formatted etc, and installed XP Pro.
Now XP has started doing the same thing, + a few other things, the loading screens, have lines through them, and its really really slow, almost as slow as vista (dual core 2.6Ghz , 3GB ram, 512MB graphics) shouldnt be running slow ?
I have no internet options, no drivers, no nothing
Ive tried to install drivers, and my modem, and it just wont do it, after i install them, reboot, the computer wont load at all
Any help ?

first step is to run memtest for a few hours to see if there's any problems with your ram. check this out: Tutorial: How to use Memtest - TechSpot OpenBoards
you could also try booting the system up with just 1 stick of ram at a time and see if you can locate a corrupt module. and remove any non-critical components to see if the problem is related to one of them.
and would you happen to have a spare graphics card laying around (or does your motherboard have onboard graphics)? if you do you could try a bit of swapsies there.
try these things, and if they don't find the problem, we'll try something else![]()
Ill give them a try after work today, when i can actually get my computer booted up![]()

It would also help if you could provide some of the info off the BSOD, such as the stop code, and any file names it might mention.
Also if you can get it started download the latest drivers for all your hardware from the manufacturers websites.
BSOD usually indicate a faulty hardware, corrupt or incorrect drivers, or a Virus infection. Since you have wiped and reloaded the PC,
it would generally rule out the viruses, leaving either faulty hardware or corrupt drivers as the cause.
Also try booting up the computer with the bare minimum of hardware connected. i.e disconnect any printers, scanners, webcams, etc.
Also remove any unnessasary hardware like internal modems, additional harddrives, etc. (Process of Elimination)

"Girls are like domain names, all the good ones are taken."
Pretty much narrowed it down to graphics,
Everytime i try to update the graphics, with the latest driver, the computer ends up failing.
Going to borrow a mates card, just to be sure.
Cheers for the help guys![]()
