Yep, have it going at work. Make sure your ip addresses are in the same subnet, by going to a dos prompt and typing ip config. i would start by turning your firewalls off and start testing using the ping command. tell us how ya do

Once you get that working have a look at this

I can get the XP PC to ping the W7, and vise versa, but I can't get them to "see" each others folders. Firewalls are turned off, the weird thing is the IP addresses, the XP has 192.168.x.x, but the W7 is 10.0.x.x, and the router is 10.0.x.x. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Yeah, I read that, and tried everything, but still no joy.

You need to get the XP box to a 10.0.0.x address, it may be set staticly, have a look a the ip properties and set it to auto, go to a cmd box and type ipconfig /release and hit enter, then ipconfig /renew then enter, the ip address should now be a 10.0.0.x

get them in the same subnet first,

if you can ping then i doubt its a layer 1,2 or 3 issue, its likely to be a layer 4 or higher issue. (application etc.)

How are you setting up shares? in windows 7 you need to specify a share to a user, lets say the network share is called "share", if you don't care then add "everyone" and give it read permissions, if you don't do this you WONT be able to see the share.

after this target the windows 7 machine in start>run "//10.0.0.XXX/share/"

this should prompt you for access, enter the details of a valid user on the windows 7 system, hit enter.

you may need to specify the location for the user, should look like "\win7-pc\user"

the share should automagically pop up.

I hate windows 7 networking, its the most backwards piece of crap ever.

Your best of setting all your computers to static. For example, make your modem 192.168.0.254, your win 7 box 192.168.0.1 and your XP box 192.168.0.2

Before you do the above though, run the network sharing wizard on them and activate folder and printer sharing. Usually this has to be done before they can see each others folders.
