Has anyone experienced or know how to fix the following:
Each night I copy and paste an excel file from a network drive at work onto my desktop. The excel file has a number of macro's and external data which is constantly updating so I copy the file at a certain time each night and do my work on it from the local copy.
Once it's copied and window's has asked if I want to overwrite the previous file as it usually does I double click to open it, the timer appears as if it's loading then that's it. Nothing happens no matter how many times/ways of opening it I try. Can't open it from inside excel either.
Only once I've restarted the computer will it open. It never used to do this up until about a month or two ago, and there has been nothing changed to the system or my procedures.
Hope someone has some ideas, thanks in advance!
Pretty odd, but i do know for a fact that windows released a load of new security updates for the office systems last week. You can try a system restore if you havn't done anything to important, this will move around your files and uninstall any updates.
I have had a similar problem with an excel document that gets data updated fairly regularly.
How big is the file size?
How long have you left it when the hour glass appears?
With mine it does the same thing but if I leave it for a few minutes it comes up. This seems to only happen with this large file. All other excel docs are fine.

Left it a minute or two no longer than that though. I'll have to give it a try. It's not massive only 1.5mb
Just out of curiosity, if you open it on your PC while its on the network drive then save a copy to your desktop does it do the same thing? Could be an alternative to copy and paste..
