I have received a lengthy e-mail supposedly sent by the UK branch of Microsoft, announcing I have been selected from a host of millions for a big prize. Ring Freddy Fanackerpants and claim your prize - the usual shit.
This is obviously one of those bullshit scams, but how do I report it to the real Microsoft? I use Hotmail for my e-mails.
LMAO!!! Don't even bother.
Hotmail for emails? Eeeew! That's your problem right there.
Well, I can easily dump the thing, no problems at all. As for Hotmail, it's adequate for my needs - I get maybe 30 e-mails per week from selected sites and very little rubbish. Why do you suggest that I not bother referring it to Microsoft - I was under the impression that they do act to alert customers of scams when they are reported and identified.
Hmm, just read a second post saying don't bother, so it's junked. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks mate. Yeah, I knew it was crap the moment I saw it - it had all the hallmarks of scams like the Nigerian lottery. Allegedly distributed by the UK office of Microsoft, quoted all sorts of bullshit reference numbers which any nitwit could have made up (have you ever seen a reference number with McS as part of it, as in McSmart?) , and even had a caveat at the end that unauthorised persons might attempt to defraud the company and claim the prize, which would mean the winner (me) forfeited the prize, and therefore, utmost confidentiality was to be exercised. How stupid do these shitheads think we all are? The thing screamed SCAM from the word go and just got more stupid as it progressed. It now resides in that big circular ethernet dustbin, but no doubt, some poor turd somewhere will be sucked in by it.
I have been getting a lot of these type of scam emails claiming to be from the uk in the last 2 weeks, had one from BP, Shell and microsoft among others. WOW all the big companies are trying to give me MILLIONS of pounds for not even entering a competition, lucky the dodgy email addresses they give are so fake otherwise I think that more people would be sucked in.
