Default Looking at buying a PSP

    As the title suggests.

I'll be away from home for up to 12 weeks and will need some form of entertainment and was thinking of a PSP. Does anyone have one and what are the pros and cons of them.

    Cheers

i have one, bought it on the 1st day of release back in whenever it was. 07 maybe? or 06? all was going good with it until i had it in my pocket when i walked up a set of stairs, it hit the handrail and the lcd screen smashed. cost $80 to get a new screen (out of warranty).

i think they are alright but i dont get the time to use it now, the games i play the most are probably gran turismo and v8 supercars. theres also many hacks for them to get pirated games working, but you have to do a firmware downgrade to run them.

    what are they worth now?

I brought one off this forum not too long ago It was all ready to just download games and play. They are epic good for wasting some time, you can get heaps of old skool ps1 games for them too

what do you need to run ps1 games on them, that would be great time wasting stuff.

Pick a psx game and you can find a psp-conversion for it. most of them are on thepiratebay.

Troy, if you are into mechanical crap, search ebay for NHRA: Countdown to the Championship. It's a drag racing game, jet dragsters, pro stock cars and bikes, and top fuel funny cars and rails. To be competitive, you have to tunee them very aggressively; the difference between a 4.6 second 1/4 mile and smoking the tyres causing engine detonation can be a tenth of a gram in clutch weights. Of course keeping it straight on the track and in the geared classes shifting is important too

It's brilliant if you're into the technical side of things; unbearable if you're not lol.

Cheers for the replies, I ended up buying one last week and a massive handful of games. It's a pretty good little unit and hopefully it will keep me entertained for 3 months

EDIT: I got the regular version, not the PSP Go. The 'download only' idea really put me off.

Bit of a dig, but i bought one a few years ago. i hardly play it at all these days, but it certainly was good for killing time.
Anyone who has one should look into CFW (Custom firmware). its simple for someone with a youtube watching skills.

im still tossing up whether to try and sell it or keep it...

And Manhunt 2, wow that was, thought slightly disturbing, a fun game
