Hi All
After many many many years of using POS phones that only make calls and send texts i finally picked up my first decent phone. the iphone 4
Now i know absolutely nothing about them and the usage's the incur, so i have a few questions.
With things such as the GPS or Maps. If i am using them in the car/ bike as my GPS does this use up my data allowance?
We have wifi at work and at home, so if i hook up to them as soon as i get home will it not use up my data allowance?
I have changed over from Vodafone to Telstra how long does it generally take before the phone because activated?
People at work are telling me to get phone insurance. How do i go about this?
If theres anything else i can think of i will ask.
Any help will be fantastic.
Cheers
Yes GPS uses your data but because its only a small map its not a large chunk.
No, if you are connected to wifi it does not use your data, it uses the person who owns the WiFis data
about a weekish.... not even.
Talk to your phone company about insurance
Maps will use data usage yeah cos it uses the Internet
I use mine pretty heavily and it doesn't use up, there's also a app u can download that tells u how much u have used
Or f u text the word 'use' the the number: 176
It will tell u how much u have used
No wifi will not use up ur usage, up the top it should say '3g' (that means Internet) and if its a few like curved bars it means ur connected to wireless
Don't worry if it says 3G when ur not
Even in the Internet, it's not using any....
Also battery life is shit as, If I was you I would look into buying a car charger
And a 2nd charger for work just cos battery life sucks..
U can get them at like JB hifi and dick smiths electronics I think
Anything else just ask..
Also when I had insurance with optus it was $5 a month and a new phone was a additional $75
Now I'm with telstra so I have no idea sorry
EDIT: Dam beat me to it
Hmm yes i am with Telstra. The phone was just activated just a few minutes ago.
What is the name of the App that monitors your data usage. Go over that scares the shit out of me becuase it is charged at 2c a KB which could add up bloody quick.
Has anyone had any reception problems with the iphone4?
on plan?
I use app called "quota" i basically logs into ur service providers usage n displays it, takes 20sec to update if that.
It shows a bar with % used for calls and data
Cost 2.49 i think, im with 3 so its a different app, but pretty sure there is one for telstra
just looked, "3g usage for telstra" $1.19
Me bro hasnt had any reception probs with his, but its in a case.
Know Heaps of people with iPhone 4s and no reception issues, people have come from the states and say no issues over here where they have issues over there, Appears just to be a issue over there.
Hi all, thought i would add to this thread instead of starting another. I just got a iphone 3gs and have only had it turned on a couple of times. I will start using it once i get a leather holder(am waiting for it to be delivered). I havent played too much yet, i worked out i needed to download itunes and sync the phone or whatever it was. The sim card is recognised and i can make calls. I am yet to work out how to get into my contacts and make txts but i will try that stuff in the next week or so.
My question is what free gps tracking software is good? I saw the add for aca the other day but the story didnt mention any actual software names. I did a google search but i dont know what i can trust, i dont want to ruin a brand new phone.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers Shane

hey shane im not sure about a tracker for them, maybe ebay iphone tracker or something other than that i have no idea
to get to your contacts u click phone and then click contacts, or just click phonebook
you cant import them off a sim unfourtunetly
and texting u just go into messages
I practically shot myself when I read the title.....but just to let you know I would get a car charger!
for Telstra data usage, free data usage meter available using the BigPond app. Click 'My' in the top right corner, the 'data usage' this will show you a graph, & KB downloaded since last billing cycle.
Warning, 1st month is subject to pro-rata so it will appear you have used more than you really have, dont panic, its normal, full allocation next month.
Anything you do on the BigPond app that is marked in Green, is free of download usage
*Telstra employee disclaimer goes here*
EDIT : iOS5 is out today, give it around an hour to update though!!
Hooray for ios5... went to update before work, but then needed to download latest version of itunes first, so ran out of time.
On a positive, got bored waiting for the iphone 5 so pre-ordered 2 x iPhone 4S (one black, one white) from apple.![]()
