Default Computer Stuck in Standby Mode

Hey guys, Hoping someone will be a bit less clueless than me and offer a solution for this annoying computer. Last few days my pc has been randomly getting stuck in standy/hibernation/sleep whatever u call it mode. I will be using it one moment walk off leave it for half and hour and it just doesn't want to wake up, the light stays orange and it won't respond to moving the mouse around or bashing on the keyboard as it used to. The only way I can get the bastard going again is to restart power a couple of time. Most annoying grr
If it helps its a few years old pc- compaq presario running windows7

    Hey Julie,
Go to start > control panel > system and security > power options > Then there should be two different selections either high performance or balanced, find which one you are (will have a little dot in the box) and click change plan settings thats next to your current plan. Then change "put the computer to sleep" to never.
    Hope this helps.
