Thinking about getting a PS3, just wondering if you guys know if the newer PS3's are backward compatible with PS2 games? Im pretty sure the older PS3's could play PS2 games but i heard somewhere that they are no longer compatible.
I have a 45 game PS2 library and i still like to play stuff like GTA Vice City/San Andreas and Resident Evil 4 and the Need For Speeds.
I don't want to buy one and find out it won't play this stuff, im looking at a 160gb PS3.
So anyone that has RECENTLY bought a PS3, do PS2 games work?
Cheers guys!
nope only the old 64gig ps3 played the ps2 games
I have one but i dont think it plays older games, never tried honestly. But im pretty sure the slimline ones are not backwards compatible.
as above , no
50LTRv8
only the 60/80gb models playes them (not all 80gb models tho) a way to tell them apart is only the backward capability's consoles had 4 usb ports every other console has 2...best bet ebay
on the new one (320gb), under the game options it has ps/ps2 memory card option.
which if you cant play it, why would it be there?
i can give it a go later today to see if the brand newest ones can.
tried it, it can read it but wont play it even knows its a ps2 disc, damn Sony =P im still confused about the ps/ps2 memory card option it has though.
although if you have the old ps2 games you can pick up a ps2 for so cheap nowadays, $100 or so gets you one.
i know im gonna get another ps2 to play my old ones for.
Sony cant even get their network back up, how are they ment to be able to handle enabling backwards compatibility,

God must love stupid people, He made so many.
The network got attacked, will be down for a while. =l
Only the old ones were PS2 compatable, See here for list. New ones you can play most PS1 games.
GTA 4, GT5, red dead redemption, dead rising 1&2, nfs shift 1, dragon age origins. pretty much the best games I have played on ps3, bold are must havesIt all depends on what type of genre of games you like to play, read lots of online reviews and check out youtube vids of games before buying to avoid disappointment.
first off make sure you have a HDMI cable, it makes it sooo much better. and it doesnt have to be "Oxygen free" as it makes no real difference (just went through that at trade school)
need for speed is a definate, and shift 2 is pretty mind blowing, even has bathurst on there (mt panorama).
NFS: Hot Pursuit is also awesome, high speed driving, its gone back to the good old days of street racing.
Mx vs Atv is also awesome, tearing up the tracks
Tom Clancy rainbow 6: Vegas 2. has an awesome 2 player mission set up, if your into 2 player with friends/family
as above said, whatever interests you, check out the game and so forth.
and thats interesting you can buy ps2 games and put it directly on the Harddrive, is it expensive to do such a thing?
Uncharted 1&2 are my favorites. Red dead as mentioned is great along with gta4. I got bored pretty quickly with gt5, i'm more of a motorstorm kind of guy though.![]()
