hey guys about a year and a half>2years ago i brought windows 7 upgrade for vista and i put it on my laptop no worries, and i kinda thought it was like a 3computer thing like the anti-virusus (not very good wih computers) and put it on my main computer too, so now the 'trial period' is over its asking me to either enter the product key(which has already been used) or purchase a new one, i think the windows website said it was like $113, i would rather not pay it atm so i was wondering if i could delite the upgrade.. any ideas would be sweet cheers guys
Will have to reinstall Vista using the serial on the bottom of the laptop.

Now with my very own Tech2....YAY.
but i want to do it on the computer the laptops fine sorry,
dont even use the laptop anymore cos the wireless cards software dissapeared haha
so if i got a vista disk id have to go over vista and 7 to get back to vista lol urhg seems easier just to pay the guys for the key haha![]()
When I upgraded to Windows 7 I didn't enter a key because the guy who sold me the key was obviously dodgy, anyway every time when I started my computer it would ask me if I would register now, I just hit ESC and it would load to Windows, I did this for over a year without a damn problem. Then when I reinstalled my computer thanks to viruses I tried the key again and it worked (I think there is a time-frame to reusing the key so you can rebuild your computer every so often).
So my first advice would be try the key, and if that doesn't work, call Microsoft on thier registration number the the computer gives you, and explain you are replacing the laptop with your PC and they will give you a working code.

Install 7 on the PC, from the disc that you have already used, using the original key. Try to activate it, and when it refuses to do it automatically, choose the telephone activation option. Follow the prompts, and either the automated system or some asian gal in a call centre will talk to you. Tell them you are installing the OS on the same computer, its not installed on any other computer, and it has been wiped from the old drive. (If you are talking to a person you can tell her the hard drive failed.) You will get issued with a new number, and you're set...
I have used OEM discs up to 10 times doing this, and they are single user licenses. Doesn't matter if the old computer still works and is online at the same time as yours either, there are at least ten online in SE QLD using the same license at the same time from one of my discs...
If you have already installed it, no problems, just go to Control Panel, System, and click on the 'Activate Now' at the bottom of the page, and you will get the option for telephone activation..

Can't install on more then one unless you got a Family Upgrade pack. If you aren't using your laptop anymore (The wireless drivers are easy to fix by the way), then use the key on your Computer. Should register, but if it doesn't, use the phone register option, and tell them you are reinstalling on the same computer. They will give the code, all finished! But after that DON'T connect your laptop to the internet
OR! Dont be a scab and buy another licence
You can use the license multiple times, even if its a single user. They have to allow you reinstall options until they can design a completely bulletproof operating system. Once you have used those up, usually 2 or 3 reinstalls, you just have to go through the phone process and tell the appropriate lies. MS will eventually block the disc, but this can take up to a dozen re-installs before they start to care.
I'd even suggest you reinstall the laptop too. That will fix the wireless issues. That's one of the best things about 7 in my view, it has or can get drivers for just about anything. Just don't try to activate them both on the same phone call lmao ... if anyone asks you when you activate the second one (wait an hour or two, or even a day maybe), tell them the first installation failed and you have had to replace the hard drive..
Connect both computers to the internet, no problem. There are at least 10 computers online from one OEM (single user) disc of mine. Once its activated, its activated, and other installs from the same disc are either not noticed or not cared about by MS, because I have been doing this reliably for years with all versions of Windows since XP. It may apply to earlier versions too, I never tried.
I build, repair and sell computers. I install and activate the OS, I tell my customer they will not get a disc (or be charged for one) and why. I tell them they can consider it a free 'trial' version, and if it ever demands an activation they will have to pay. So far, no-one has needed to. Genuine Advantage also has no problem with any of these installations.
I believe this is a deliberate 'hole' left by MS for more competent users to find and take advantage of, and they are certainly aware of it, as they invariably block the disc completely after about a dozen uses.

Thanks djim8, an easy way to get to the phone system.
Just be aware, if it didn't activate automatically online, the phone system will also reject it. It will offer you alternatives though, just listen to the prompts and use your brains![]()
also if u get through to a real person while on the phone to MS...act stupid like you dont knw anything about it..otherwise they will make u buy a new key
Is the trial period for the desktop if so then you dont have to do anything it will automatically stop.If you purchased windows7 nearly 2 years ago then you keep that forever on your laptop
you can probably go to the manufacture's site of the laptop and re-download the drivers
