Here's the best advice possible: Go to a few shops, look at laptops, compare specs/prices, then buy the one YOU like the most.
Not getting up anyone, but everyone has a different opinion, & the only way to find what you really want, is to look around at ALOT of different ones.

I agree its better to go and put your hands on computers, feel them, see if you like them. The crappy feel of the keyboard or the cheap feel of the plastic or the bad viewing angle on the screen.. these things need you to actually handle the computer.
I'd do that last though, once I had a short list of machines I wanted to look at. Once I'd been to see them, and chosen which one to buy, then I would go home, get online and find the cheapest one I could get from a reputable dealer.
First, I'd do research, find out whats on the market, compare their specs vs price etc. Then I'd check the forums and see which machines lived up to their promise, and what the possible upsides and downsides are. Then I would take my shortlist to the shops to actually handle the machines.
You can go and look at a million laptops, see the specs sound good, the machine looks good... then take it home and find its a heap of junk. Then you will look at the forums and discover that everyone has been saying exactly that, and wish you had actually checked to see what the users of those machines had to say about them.
I do actually agree with our rude friend footy that the laptop forums are a good place to go. Mostly because you are more likely to find people who are actually using the laptops you are considering buying, and you should hopefully get honest opinions instead of sales blurb. I just don't agree that everyone here knows nothing except for him lol...
Oh I totally agree on checking forums etc, when I wanted mine, I looked them up on the internet, found the ones I was keen on, went on some forums, read the haters and lovers posts, then went to 3 different stores for the best price, then haggled down a further $400, & i'm using this same laptop right now. Well, my 4 key got stuck on my numpad so I had to get a replacement lol but apart from that it's great.

Hi guys. Thanks a lot for all the replies. Been doing a lot more researching over the past 2 weeks. Learnt so much about computers that I never imagined I would learn. Went to many electronics stores to see the laptops for myself. Exact ones I'm looking for aren't available yet, but their under-powered versions here give you an idea of what the other ones are like. Very impressed with the ASUS laptops, turns out Toshiba has some good deals too.
Too bad there aren't any Clevo re-sellers in the Middle-East, and no international warranty if I get one from abroad. Heard great stuff about those smaller companies, Sager for the US, Schenker for Germany and such. All built from a Clevo barebones laptop. Customization from almost every angle. The closest I could find to such a thing was ASUS. Some of you might know that ASUS originally built mother-boards and some components, supplying them to larger multi-national companies (Toshiba, Dell, HP etc). Only recently they started making their own laptops.
Its either going to be an ASUS or a Toshiba for me. If its ASUS, it will be one of the following, depending on when they will arrive here in the Middle East:
- N53SN
- N53SV
- U46SV
If its Toshiba, then any one of those:
- Satellite P750
- Satellite P755
- Satellite A665
Once again, thanks for all the help. Cheers!

Lol 8 cpu's. It's 4 cores with what's known as hyper threading. Just tricks the OS into thinking there's more cores. Doesn't mean it has 8 physical cores.

nope no overheating...
run dxdiag thats where i got the info from..
its called logical cores it turns into through hyperthreading sorry 4 cores
One thing to look out for, is Blu ray drives/burners. They REALLY push the prices up, and I mean REALLY, unless you want one lol, but I didn't because I have a bluray player already so I saved a couple of hundred when I got this laptop
