I know this game's pretty old and no one gives a crap about it, but does anyone know a way to play L4D2 without getting the updates? I've installed it, and to play it through Steam I need to update, but that takes a billion years unless I go around someone's place who has fast internet, cos' I quite frankly don't.
I've read around about no steam fixes and crap but I was wondering if anyone on here plays without going through Steam? I don't care about online atm, just want to blast some zombies :P

Yeah, you'll need to crack it to do that. Being a dedicated steam game running on the source engine, it loads all it's files from the shared GFC files in /steamapps.
Honestly, you ARE better off just getting the files. Leave it run overnight or some nonsense, it should be fine even on the slowest broadband.

Also, the new files, if it's been a while, will give you the new campaign, which is worth a look.
