Hey guys
I bought a iPhone 3 and it's done nothing but piss me off...
I got over the whole iTunes hurdle and now a new drama has arisen, the dreaded "Recovery Mode"
I have no idea what it is, what it is doing or why. I read a few pages on this (from Google searches) and basically I'm so far lost its not funny.
If maybe some one could explain it in "iPhone for dummies" spec, i would REALLY appreciate it.
In the meantime I have a really shiny paper weight lol
Is it stuck in recovery mode?
Is that what you mean?

i can see your problem...you bought an iphone
First, what did you do prior to it going into recovery mode? Did you try to Jailbreak it? Did it do it while plugging into iTunes? Did you accidentally pull the cable out while Synching? They don't normally do it for no reason.
Tried doing a hard reset yet? Turn your phone off, then hold the home button + the on/off/hold button (at the top) at the same time for a bout 10 seconds, then release the on/off/hold button & keep the home button held for a further 10 - 20 seconds, then release. Your phone will hard reset.
If that fails, you may have to plug it into your pc/laptop and do a restore through iTunes, which will delete all data, numbers, music, pics, videos etc.
If that fails, try charging it for a while before trying either of the above.
IF ALL ELSE FAILS:
Plug the phone into your pc/laptop & close iTunes and shit if it tries to open. Next, turn the phone off completley, if you can. While off, hold the home button & the hold/lock/top button for 10 seconds, then release the top/lock/hold button but keep holding the home button for a further 20 seconds. This should force the phone into recovery mode, and iTunes should be able to automatically pick your phone up [Since it's plugged into the PC already] & should do it's thing.
If you're game enough, you can try this website, I have never tried it, and I'm not keen on running random .exe's on my laptop without first scanning them for viruses etc, but if you're desperate, heaps of people reckon it's the way to go, though it isn't hard to fake a comment section in WordPress, and the lack of grammar on the page worries me.

LOL yea, never again, that's what i get for trying to keep up with the "in crowd"
In other news i am doing a "restore" through iTunes, so we'll see how that goes.
Also is the screen supposed to be blank while it is doing a restore, every other time that I plug it into the PC it has a battery picture.

It just went flat at work and when I got home I plugged her in to charge, it said "your iPhone is in recovery mode"
Not too sure what "jailbreak" is so....maybe i did?? haha
cheers for the help guys
Jail break is where you de-Apple the phone allowing full access to the operating system.
The battery symbol indicates that it is charging. If it is red with an ! that indicates it is so flat it can't do anything else.
My phone does similar stuff if it goes dead flat - give it a full charge and off you go. If it is still under warranty and you haven't damaged it, take it back for repair if it keeps stuffing up.
Right-o
I tried the iTunes restore, that brought it back to normal (fully functional). However the home button wont work now.....
So I have ordered a new home button off eBay, and I am praying it will work. If it STILL wont work, there will be a you tube video of "iPhone vs. size 11 Blundstone" LOL
Thanks again for all the help guys.
The home button can be programmed in the settings. Try double or tripple clicking the home button. Double click brings up previously used apps and triple gives the screen inverse colours.
If the home button worked previously try restoring the phone again (after a hard reset) and see if it comes back.
Yea I just watched a you tube video for it......seems like my "iPhone Vs. size 11" video will be made.... but what the hell, its pretty much useless without a home button.
I tried the double click, the triple click, in total I have now pressed the home button about 30 million times....
In conclusion: don't buy secondhand ANYTHING.
You can buy 2nd hand LCD screens off the net for $100 which come with the home button etc, but you either need really tiny fingers, or certain tools to pry the shit apart under the screen cos' there's small cabled you need to dislodge by lifting these tabs, much like inside laptops, pc's etc.

if your gunna pull the screen off....... take heed from a person who has tried....
take of the 2 screws at the dock connector
grab a suction thingy.. i used my gps devcice for my windscreen......... and put it on near the home button and pull off slowly from that end\
get to about 45 - 60 degrees from the home button up and slowly remove the 3 connectore for the screen.... the first to are really obvious because the lay on eeach other near the power button - the third u need to prise up the grey tab to release the cable then slide out towards the ( power button way)
the reverse that to put all back together
3gs is near on obsolete. Sell it.
BTW iOS is the best mobile o/s out there. Nothing wrong with apple.
