Hey,
So today I put my current phone through some muppets windscreen.
I was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing near Harvey Norman in Frankston when some muppet is a S15 decided I was worth 100 points and almost cleaned me up.
As I was diving out of his way I threw what I had in my hand at his car, which happened to be my trusty HTC Magic.
End result, this guy had a smashed windscreen and I need a phone.
SOOOOooooooooo!
I'm looking at either the HTC Incredible or the Samsung Galaxy S. No other options as I'm looking to just getting one as part of my plan with Virgin and I get these for $4 a month.
Anyone had experience with either of these?
did you have to pay for his new windscreen, or is insurance sorting that shit out![]()
Nope, walked up to him. He apologised for almost running me over and I told him next time he should look where he is driving and walked off.
I think he was well aware we was lucky to be keeping his teeth, because he almost cleaned up my fiancee but I yanked her back first and then jumped out of the way.
If it was just me, then I would have laughted it off, but if someone goes anywhere near harming a hair on my sweetie pies head. Heads (and windscreens it seems) will get cracked.
ANyway, phones people! That's what I want to know about.
They're both camp compared to the mighty motorola atrix
I have a mate with the galaxy, all he does is rave about it alllllll day so i guess he's happy with it.
I was impressed with the galaxy. Only reason i went the motorola is it has really good coverage out here in the sticks.
I have an incredible S, compares to my iPhone 3GS it's epic! My brother has a Galaxy S 1, not 2, so I guess I could compare my Incredible S to his Galaxy S1, but I don't know much about his.
I enjoy my I.S, has HD photo/video, typical android features, gorilla glass screen, long battery life even with music pumping all day, great reception for net and calls [though I guess that's just a Virgin thing since reception has nothing to do with phones except iPhone 4's mess up], and yeah, smooth screen swiping animations, easy to use if you've used Android phones before, easy access to apps via android market, easy to hold, thin enough for me .... yeah haha that's about it I guess

Yeah, I'm coming from an Android phone and am looking to stick with android.
What is gorilla glass?
Wow glad to hear you're ok man.
I've got the HTC Incredible S and it's bloody brilliant! Never been this happy with a phone before.
Can't say anything about the other one but +1 for the incredible s. great call quality, good reception, generous 16gb micro SD card, good camera & film quality etc. etc.
plus you can play angry birds![]()

+1 on the 16GB Micro SD card, great for putting music on etc, can store heaps of apps, and best thing is you can take heaps of photos/video, change over the micro SD to another one, and keep going!
Android are great now that I'm used to mine, really happy with the whole system.
Gorilla Glass is really really REALLY strong glass. Like, super strong lol and really clear. Yeah, it smudges, but as for scratches, you have to really man handle it to scratch.
Here's a site with a bit of info

Mmm yeah I guess, up to personal choice. IMO microSD's are not a good alternative to an iPod if you're using it for music and wanting to keep it up to date. very slow to transfer onto and no syncing features like itunes has.
But for the odd song on it and plenty of room for camera stuff it's more than you need.

I guess it's pretty slow, as slow as, say, copying music onto/off your external HDD, but I guess if you want that much music you'd buy an iPhone, but all their plans are all about the $$$.
On the back of the box, the Incredible S only has 1.1gb standard + a 16gb Micro SD as opposed to the Galaxy's capacity.Originally Posted by jesterarts
But yeah, as for comfort, the Incredible S is super comfy & great to hold as opposed to my iPhone 3GS, which had a flat back & it slid out of my hand/palm alot when I went to grab it.
8MP camera with dual flash is awesome, the camera is stunning, and the 720HD video is stunning too, but that's the norm for video nowadays. The 8MP camera + flash is a great feature. If the Galaxy S2 has flash, ignore my comment lol.

I actually found the Incredible S battery a bit inadequate to start, it wouldn't last a day properly. This may have been to do with the charging period or how I set it up, but I definitely noticed a HUGE diference with an app called JuiceDefender, and just generally being conscious not leaving bluetooth or wifi on when you're not using it and it's fine.
If you're really after music I think you should buy an iPod - not and iPhone. Phones & Music shouldn't mix 100%

I have both of those phones, they came with plans for the kids but I wont let them use em, they have cheap phones in case they lose em. I use an iphone4.
They are both great phones, the galaxy has better battery life, the htc is slightly more user friendly and tougher IMO. If you charge batteries every night as I do, neither one has a battery life problem as such.
The 16G is handy in the galaxy, but unless you are using your phone as an ipod, the standard memory is fine in the htc.. and hey how much does an SD card cost if you find you need more?
Like you said, it depends on how they feel in your hand and how much you like the interface. I'd choose the htc personally.
Thanks DAKSTER,
I have been reading that the Galaxy built materials and qualoity are not as good as you qould expect from a samrt phone. The Incredible has positive reviews on this front.
Yeah, I usually charge the phone over night so while battery life IS something I am interested in, it shouldn't affect my experience with the phone.
I'm going down to the Virgin store this Saturday to compare the two in the flesh.
LOL hilarious! hate to be your missus' hairdressers! Wound tight much?
Yeah right - that's why we got the whole back story, and a follow up with even more detail. You're clearly well suited to being in Frankston. All you needed to say was "I'm looking at either the HTC Incredible or the Samsung Galaxy S. No other options as I'm looking to just getting one as part of my plan with Virgin and I get these for $4 a month.
Anyone had experience with either of these?"
FWIW, get the Samsung Galaxy S.
LOL!!! Where did I say he comes from there? I said suited to BEING there.
And if he doesn't want people commenting on that part of the story, try not posting it in the first place.
Although it was quite amusing. Especially the comment about the cutie pie and her delicate hair. Hahahaha...![]()
Fixed that for ya. I live between 3 houses, the one my family lives in, the one at the farm 60k west and the one I am renovating halfway between the two. The family house is in Caboolture 35k from Brisbane CBD and an Optus phone only works if you take it outside. Neither of the other places will receive Optus at all, or any other network but Telstra.
I hate Telstra but at least the phone works most of the time.
However, the OP has said he has a Virgin plan, so he has obviously been getting reception, and he is locked in I assume. At least he gets to pay less than I do![]()
Nah, I'm not locked in with Virgin as I am currently on a BYO plan so can change at any time.
While I have had some 3G issues with Virgin (Takes a while to load facebook sometimes) for my usauge requirement they are fine.
Plus I've never had an issue with call reception so I'm going to stick with them for now.
