Memory Management BSOD

Hi guys,

Just after some computer-stuff help.

Ok so I got a new system about 9 months ago, Win 7 64-bit, 4gb Ram, Intel i5 Core @ 2.80 GHz.

Been working fine until about 2-3 months ago when I started getting BSOD's a couple times a week, with different error messages.

Did all the usual tests and all that and it went away but now in the last 3 weeks I'm getting the Memory Management BSOD just about everytime I use more than 4 programs simultaneously.
I think it may have started with Firefox (running 7.0.1) because that seems to crash almost everytime I have more than 10-11 tabs running.

I got told to do a MemTest check (ISO boot from Restart via CD-Rom) to see if the RAM is faulty.....need to run it overnight.

Has anyone has similar issues? I'm not sure if it is a hardware malfunction with the RAM or a Virtual Memory issue.

Ideas? Hints?

Try booting into safe mode and opening up a few programs just to see if its a system process causing it.

I feel your pain.

I have spent the last 3 or 4 weeks battling sudden BSOD's and freezing. I did the mem test that showed faulty RAM, bought new RAM - BSOD!!!!! Replaced HDD - BSOD. I have had more issues with freezing since updating to FF 7.0.1 so rolled back but still had random BSOD's. The MB is only a year old and I have upgraded the BIOS so ruled that out. Only other hardware issues could be graphics card or CPU but I was over buying components to no avail. I have ran isolation tests and read endless pages on possible solutions, tried many and still BSOD's.

Formatted three times since this started, yesterday being the latest format.

Since last night when she was back up and running I have had 2 BSOD's and I think that was from my external HDD as I was moving files back to this HDD. I disconnected the external and so far so good, the box has been up now almost 24 hours and no BSOD. (I have to point out I have had the external unplug as an isolation test previously but was still getting BSOD's.) I ended up moving all my files back from the external to this HDD in safe mode today then unplugged it to boot into winshit. I have reinstalled FF 7.0.1 and it's had a couple of mini freezes today lasting a couple of seconds so will see how that goes.

For 20 years now I have built and maintained my own computers and always managed to troubleshoot issues. For the first time ever I have got to the point of sheer frustration and was at the point of taking it to an IT shop to get repaired. One more BSOD and I am handing it over to someone else as I am over it lol.

Over the year's of having similar problems with older pc's i've learn't the following:
The power supply is usually the most overlooked item for the cause of alot of problems... 6 times out of 10 with similar issues after playing swap's with ram, video cards and hdd's in process of elimination... i then look inside the cover of the power supply and find a few capacitors with bulging tops... replace power supply, and all is well again with a healthy supply of power.
Another more common cause is the thermal paste on the cpu, northbridge and southbridge chips has dried out and the heatsink isn't dispersing the heat quickly enough so the system is unstable causing BSOD's
And/or too much dust caught in the heatsink fins reducing their cooling ability enough for the chip to run hotter than it's mean't to thus causing BSOD's
Failing all of the above like my better half's pc, replace the motherboard and all was then well.

had the exact same problem with mine, memory issues causing a BSOD every few days or when things got memory intensive, that was about 6 months ago, what i didnt realise was that the memory timing settings were set to auto configure in the motherboard, the timings were off and the voltage too low, looked up the manufaturer specifics for my ram, set the timings manually and bumped up the voltage to the required output, 6 months ago was my last BSOD, prior to that i had done memetests and all of what you had mentioned, memtests only show up issues if there is actual problems with the ram, look up your timing and voltage and make sure that is all set correctly first

Checked your event logs prior to the crash? Whats happening just before it looses it?

Yeah see I haven't had time to look at it since posting, thanks for the replies....

I would say Firefox is the issue but it seems to work fine on my Laptop so not sure.....the power supply shouldn't show up a Faulty RAM code in my opinion (I'm no expert, just an intermediate).

I'm gonna take it to a specialist (40 bucks to replace and test Ram, thought why not, better than 5 hours of troubleshooting) and see what he does.
Might give it a format and fresh start as well.

What annoyed me most is I got the 4g DDR2 Ram with the i5 for the specific purpose of running multiple programs simultaneously.

In hindsight I am so glad I went down the Business path and not the IT path with my education lol.

Just an FYI- Had both my 2 Gb DDR Ram Sticks replaced, ran the computer for 36 hours, on and off with multiple apps and no BSOD!

So stoked that it was a simple fix.
