Hey guys,
So I was browsing the web tonight on my note book when I remembered I had some work on a USB that I needed to transfer across to the notebook. I went to the car, got the usb and came back to the note book. I sat down and straight as I plugged in the USB the whole notebook just shutdown. it wont turn back on now and it really pissed me of. the notebook is an ASUS N50v series I got around 2 years ago. any help will be greatly appreciated. oh, the warranty has all run out
try pulling out the battery and then refitting it.
it's kind of like turning off the mains power to a desktop to reset it.
worth a try
Without the USB in the laptop obviously. Remove all external devices first then pull the battery out and start up off the AC.
Is your life light (what I call it) blinking or responding?? Could be a screen or motherboard issue if it is and you're getting nothing.

Does it boot without the USB plugged in? If not I have bad news you may of blown the motherboard by shorting out the USB port.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Make sure you leave the battery off the laptop when you do this, too, but yeah my laptop is a Toshiba A660 Satellite or something, and it wouldn't turn on once so I took the battery off, turned it on again with just the AC plugged in, booted fine, and then turned the laptop off again, put battery back in, and bam, she fired up.

Ok,
With the AC adaptor plugged in, are there any lights on the computer active. There should be a power LED on. If there are no lights, no nothing, it's just dead - it is likely the motherboard has been fried.

My laptop fried once when I was having a mad all night WoW sesh with my mate, and It would turn on but not show anything. All lights on the laptop were on, plus the power light, turns out my GPU fried. Opened the laptop and saw a big black markThen I got a new one
But judging from your description of the problem, your USB port could have shorted the mobo. Was it a USB you use all the time? Have you had any issue with that USB port before, or with any other USB related items such as external HDD's etc?

I had no blinking lights or anything when it was not working. I pulled out the battery and left it out for about a minute. plugged her back in and shes working!
