The next Xbox could hit retailer shelves as early as fall 2013

The Xbox 720 will be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and will be released in 2013, it has been suggested.

According to IGN, the Xbox 720's raw graphical processing power will be "six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20% greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U".

The system is expected to be released in October or November 2013, while developers are likely to receive final development kits sometime in August.

The Xbox 720 will be powered by an AMD 6000 series GPU, akin to the Radeon HD 6670, enabling DirectX11 support, multi-display output, 3D and 1080p HD.

Previous reports have suggested that Microsoft's next console will launch in two different editions.

One of the rumoured editions, codenamed 'Loop', will be "far cheaper" and more focused on the Kinect system.

so hopefully ps4 will be out by then and have backwards compatibility (damn PS3 not like this )

I agree whilst the game content is always going to be fantastic there is always that push forward with higher quality visuals and sounds. With the original Hard Ware been several years old now it time for an update.

i never notice the difference in graphics when i play mates consoles.

Plus it feels like im holding a controller built for the hands of a baby.

cannot agree more (except i have a personal preference for ps3 =P)
the only thing i believe that either console needs to do to keep fanbases is to have backwards compatibility.
for example being able to play ps2 games on ps3. and so forth.

but it is a pretty much each to their own thing with personal preference.
however by saying it will be fall of 2013 (which i assume is usa seasons)
it will mean christmas 2013 here.
its that far away that no matter what is made everything including technology will be updated to better then we can imagine.
probably wont be long until holographic gaming is out.

and if holographic does come out in gaming it will be a whole new dimension.
imagine things like all those pet games with holographic pets.
playing online games like BF3 or COD or whatever and having a full 3d terrain map on your living room floor.
now that would be amazing for the next gen tbh.

otherwise just a basic "system upgrade" or a better "processor" isnt really worth it.
and will probably be done with slim versions (eg ps3 slim, and maybe a xbox 370 for example)

Yeah, the console war thing is bullsh!t mate, always 12 year old kids going on about which console that Call of Duty crap looks best on, i went with PS3 mostly because of blu ray, i have nothing against Xbox except that it can't play blu ray, thats it. The graphic quality between the two is exactly the same to my eyes, but then some games look better on one console than they do on another, who cares, again its just an excuse for these teenage virgins to get on the net and pretend to know what they are talking about, when really they know nothing about anything.

It all comes down to personal preference.

Its because most developers have been using the Xbox 360 as the base system (because its actually the weaker system). Cross platform games will only have slightly different shading here and there.

Even with most exclusive games you can see very little difference between similar games.

The only platform you will see a distinct difference is on PC because theyre made with the top end consumer in mind and then tapered down.

For me...The PS3 is a better console, ie. The user interface and Blu Ray player make it superior to the 360. But the 360 has a far better lineup of exclusive games and I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 one.

Theres another rumor going around with the XBOX720 being unable to play used/second hand games (including borrowing off mates), I have about 25 ps3 games and only 4 of them were bought new by me, new or second hand its all the same to me the bluray discs are very tough, disabling second hand games would be a big turn off for allot of people who complete games quickly and trade them in etc. I think releasing first is a smart move, sony did it and won with ps2, microsoft won with the 360, they may get a very big foothold if they launch very early and its proven to be a big step up in specs.

Publishers are pushing big time for this to happen. As it stands now, they get zero money from resale and its all on the retailer - which I think is fair enough, sometimes the second hand game market is a bit risk and reward.

The thing is, everyone is making a huge deal out of it, but its already around. The PC gaming world has had it for years in the form of serial numbers and the console world is slowly catching on with the online parts of games being available when you use a code.

Second hand games are going to die, im really surprised they haven't announced digital distribution of games for the next gen, because thats where we are heading. Things such as Steam have already laid the groundwork - as much as I ####ing despise Steam and even moreso EA's Origin network.
