Coolermaster RC 690, bloody good case (I'd used el cheapo no name up until this build).. provisions for water cooling (not that I'm that keen) and HEAPS of room, one of the cases that can fit the heatsink snugly, did a lot of research before making purchase (as with everything), excel spreadsheets weighing up pros and cons.. nearly got some crazy cool looking Aerocool but in the end the strong features lured me into the boring looking RC690

Thanks for that. Just had a look at the case. Really like it, and its unique in design. Sideways mounted drives, has to amke it easier for hot swappable etc, and i like the way the PSU is bottom mounted, very different. Just doesnt have enough slots for what I want but its a cool case all the same.

thanks man, i forgot now, i googled it a while back and no one knew the answer on how to solve it. my other problem is that, usually when loading something, the mouse becomes real jerky. my assumption is something is interrupting the processor so much that it affects the mouse movement. it's all hardware related - i can reformat a million times and i get the exact same problems. i have my suspicions, crappy gigabyte motherboard, dodgy ram, processor. no point replacing any of those components because it's all outdated and non transferable to a new pc if i got one.

Yer...definaltey sounds hardware related. If your mouse stutters, its because the cpu is maxed out. Though it should never get to that stage...sounds like your hardware is dieing but you are right. Could be any one of the things you have mentioned. If you want to rule out your ram try running a "mem test" and running prime95 to see if ur cpu is alright.

    some basics for you.

download memtest86+ and burn to CD. Start the computer and allow it to boot from the CD. This program will tell you if your ram is playing up. I find this is one of the most common problems for blue screens on older computers (bung RAM or bung DDR/DDRII ram slot on the mainboard). The second most common issue is drivers not up to date or conflicting with other installed hardware or corupt programs (software).

PM me if you want me to to a remote diagnostic on it.

  19. Default

yeah i've done memtest before, no issues there, also tried manually running the computer with 1 stick in it at a time in each slot and i get the same issues. drivers are always 100% up to date. it's unexplainable. i can't remember how long ago it was that i ran memtest though, and for how long, so i'll give it another crack tonight and leave it on all night.

i dug up my google searches and found the error, IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. doing a google search on it and all the links are purple haha. never found the issue and just living with it now.

I built this computer about 5 and a half years ago, besides the case, monitor, keyboard and mouse and its 100% out of date lol. Still play most games of today like COD4 with max settings, but cant run a huge resolution.

    Case: Antec P182 Black
    Motherboard: ASUS P4P800 Delux
    CPU: Intel pentium 4 2.6ghz
    RAM: 1gig DDR
    HDD: 1 x 40gig, 1 x 160gig
    Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 7600GT 256mb
    Optical: ASUS lightscribe DVD burner

    Monitor: ASUS 22" MW221 LCD
    Keyboard: Microsoft natural ergonomic 4000
    Mouse: Logitech MX revolution
    OS: Windows XP Professional

The new one that im building soon... Should do for another 5 or so years

    Case: Antec P182 Black
    PS: Antec Signiture 850watt
    Motherboard: ASUS P5E3 Premium WiFi
    CPU: Intel Quad Core 2 Q9550 2.83Ghz 12MB Cache
    RAM: 6gig DDR3 1600mhz
    HDD: 1 x 1TB SATA, 2 x 500gig SATA
    Graphics: ASUS GTX280 1gig
Optical: ASUS lightscribe DVD burner SATA
Cooling: ASUS Silent Knight CPU Cooler
    Audio: ASUS XONAR HDAV1.3

    Monitor: 2 x ASUS 24" MK241H
    Keyboard: Logitech DiNovo EDGE
    Mouse: Logitech MX revolution
    OS: Windows vista ultimate 64bit

As you can see im a fan of ASUS lol, i'd rather spend more now to have a computer that lasts for 5 years then spend half and having to keep upgrading it once a year. Even thinking of going 8gig RAM for ****s a giggles

Take the side off the case and have a look at the capacitors on the motherboard. You may have what is known as "Popped Caps" or "capacitor plague". Capacitor plague - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A few years ago it used to be a fairly common cause for bluescreens and other errors. Not so much these days as the use better capacitors.
Capacitor Plague can be noticed by looking at the top of the capacitors. If they are buldging or split at the top they have gone faulty. Sometimes on the worst affected board they may even be leaking.
