We're on Slingshot's new ADSL2+ plan but using an old ADSL1 router...... hopefully should see an improvement once we upgrade to a new router.

You should try the test using the Christchurch server instead of the Auckland one and it might give you a better result.

It all depends on the load of the mirror, routing between networks, metric hops etc etc.... these can never be accurate.


my service is symmetrical.. no idea why i couldn't push as much upstream... must be the host.

i have %100 unmetered traffic and my own /29 public range

No, its refering to MegaBits. A Megabit is 1/8th of a Megabyte. So if you work it out, say 8.6Megabits per a second is equivelent of 1075 Kilobytes a second. You dont actually think people are getting download speeds of 40+ MegeBYTES a second do you?

don't forget to factor in packet overhead!. I made some ace calculators for work a while back, still use it today

i work for a ISP/DR company...... this is while hammering our links hardcore too...

once you download everything you get bored of downloading... last check my usage was 1.2TB in the last year lol

Will be switching to ADSL2 soon, was going to wait til TPG set themselves up over here but i'm going to switch to Netspace.

If i'm right, according to my line attenuation which is 19, my max adsl2 speed should be 16920kbps, which will be a massive upgrade.
I doubt i will get that fast though, definitely not with my current modem.

edit: switched to netspace now


still not meeting my theoretical max but at least im syncing close to it at 15300

however this was during offpeak times... that can make a massive difference with internet capping that goes on during the day...

however damn nice figures there!

regardless of the server time.. it was actually 1pm when tested :/
