I'm looking at buying a new computer and got a quote and some specs and thought I'd ask what people thought of it. I know a little about computers but not much, so opinions would be good. Would would most people look at paying for this system all put together and I supply my own O/S.
Case
Intel Core Duo 3ghz
Mainboard - Asus P5Q supports 8 GB RAM
Asus Radeon 2400 PCIE
Memory Apace 2GB DDR2
Western Digital 160GB Hard Drive
Card Reader 16 IN 1
LG 20x DVD Dual Layer Burner
This was just copied off the sheet the computer shop gave me so if the parts aren't explained right......sorry.
This is just the box, I already have a screen keyboard and the other stuff.
Personelly I would buy it, because I odnt like Radeon graphics, its expensive, theirs less choices, and i dont find it to be any better then nVidia. Actually the brands all seem to be on the lower end of the scale, but it all depends what your going to be using it for?
Also how much was the quote on that?
You would buy it? So you reckon this is all low end stuff?
Got quoted $1178.95 all built.
Mainly net, dvds, music and general stuff. wanted something reasonably quick and this what was quoted.
$ 89 - Case

$ 39.95 - Card Reader 16 IN 1

What are you going to be using it for?
Signage, Splash Backs and Display Systems
"No, I'm not a pessimist. At some point the world shits on everybody. Pretending it ain't shit makes you an idiot, not an optimist."
Mainly net, watching dvds, music, downloading and general stuff. wanted something reasonably quick.
They also do a pre built one.

Mate, honestly thats about 311 bux in parts +136 for vista. BUT thats for better parts, 667 ram is rare, no one uses that anymore, **** me I built this computer nearly 3 years ago and its got 800 in it. Motherboard is also fairly old.
Definitly shop around, or go back and slap these people for me, they shouldnt be building computers lol.
Hahaha yeah might do that.
So this set up should only cost about $500-$600 then?

Also that motherboard seems to be massive overkill for the system.

So do those specs sound good? Cos if they are I might use that as a base for quotes. That way I can compare apples with apples.
Cant go past Compuzone in SA, never had a problem and have had 6 or 7 computers from there over the years.
Well, recommend a system please guys. I have a 22inch screen already so don't need that, got a printer and keyboard mouse speakers all the other stuff. Just need the box.

Thats one I built last week for my brother.... Its a bloody good computer with ALOT better specs then the one you listed. Also if your interesting in having a go at building one yourself, that motherboard is a piece of **** to work with. And its not that hard to do one yourself its suprisingly easy, and most on here are willing to help you out.
THERMALTAKE MATRIX Black / Silver Mesh Panel 430Watt Power Model: VD2430BNS - $99
SeaGate 500 gig 7200rpm SATA-2 NCQ 16meg Cache 7200.10 - $94
LG 20x DVD+/-R Burner SATA Model: GH20NS10 DUAL LAYER BLACK With NERO Software - $29
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E7300 2.66Ghz 3m CACHE 1066FSB LGA 775 - $175
ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP Intel P35 Dual-channel DDR2 1066/800/667 MHz Intel QUAD CORE 2 DUO READY - $179
G.SKILL Twin Pack 2x2 gig (4gig Total) CL5 DDR2 1000Mhz (PC2-8000) Model: F2-8000CL5D-4GBPI - $139
total = $715 + graphics card
Then grapics cards, from $25 for a **** one that can just play golf or something, to about $140 that will play most games today, which that system shuld be able to run no probs, Im sure if you looks hard enough these prices could be beat![]()
Looks good, and the price is far better than I got quoted. I wouldn't know where to start and what to get plus I just don't have the time. I don't mind paying to get it built as long as I get the rest of it for a good price.
Might check them out on the weekend. Thanks mate.
