    Default Internet slowwwww

What could possibly cause my internet to dramatically slow down for no apparent reason? Using www.speedtest.net my download speed is down to about 25% of what it normally is!!!!!!

Used up your monthly download quota and been shaped?

    Could be lots of reasons.

Optusnet, first time it has ever been like this in over 2 years. I have emailed them so we'll see what they can come up with.

I dunno but theres some massive winds and storms in Vic at the moment so you could be affected by that. My Optus TV was a little weird this arvo.

Do Optus think all of their users are tools? Got an email back, from a bloody indian going by his name, that is simply a slab of text from 'Slow Internet for Dummies'.
Maybe you have a virus, have you scanned your computer?
    Are you running any downloads?
Have you reached your monthly download limit?

Do know know all the process threads running on your machine ? Have you done a rootkit check ?

Maybe you have been hit by a virus and your machine is now acting a router in the middle and that's hogging all your bandwidth ? Have you checked where your computer is connected and to who it's connected ?

Been to Home of Gibson Research Corporation and done a port vulnerability test to see if you have open ports ?

Yeah I can account for every process, nothing sus.
Have ran AVG on the deepest scan with the newest updates, nothing.

As for the link you gave, file sharing, failed! Common ports, perfect pass! All service ports, perfect pass! Messenger spam, failed! So all is good.

Personally I would jump onto whirlpool forums and see if this is a problem affecting many other optusnet users, if not you will probably find a few clued up members that will be more help than the indian helpdesk tools.

LMAO, so pretty much the same answers we all offered up? Maybe we should all go work in support.

Yes, Line filters have been known to play a part in slow connection speed. Could be part of the problem, but doubt its the main problem.

Is your general browsing and downloads running heaps slower too, or are you only going by the figures you get from the speedtest site? It's not a very reliable site and the results you get can vary a lot for a number of different reasons.

    Check your modem sync speeds.
Does OptusNet have it's own servers storing files for free download to its customers? iiNet does and when I want to check my speeds I go to their ftp site and start a download of a large file to see what speeds I get. It is the best indication of your sync speed without actually checking your modem stats.

Yeah page loading times are really slow compared to normal and downloads that would normally run at around 400-500kb/s are at around 30-40kb/s.
