Ok couple of days ago i turned my computer on and there was a sound that i can only describe as grinding, comming from my PSU. When somethings not working right i did what ever other male does and gave it a bit of a tap. FIXED!
Turned my comp off over night to see if it would do it again and, sure enough that sound returned, another soft tap and it went away.
The PSU isnt old, its maybe 6 months old... so ive got no idea what is happening. Any ideas?
Dirty fan?....

I thought it was a dirty fan as well, but i clean them pretty regularily.
Friend also suggested a failed ball bearing. Whats the fix? New PSU or what?

Only problem is that with some newer PSUs, the wires for the fan are soldered directly to the board, rather than to a connector, meaning you'll have to have soldering skills to replace the fan.

never really liked buying cases that come with psus, cos i have an innate lack of trust. usually the people that make them (unless it's like coolermaster etc) are case builders, and i'd rather know every $ i spend is spent on the psu itself.
I agree, I just bought a shaw case with a PSU, its for my nephew. If i knock the case or give it a whack on top, the whole computer turns off instantly, also takes two more reboots for it to boot the hard drive. Quality
I bought 2 coolermaster cases, one for me and one for my brother. He got a PSU with his, its only 350w, but doest seem to be reasonable, but ill be upgrading it soon anyway to be safe. I just spent 130 on a Coolermaster PSU, and you can straight away see why its worth that. Its dead quite, and you plug in the connectors you need to the PSU, so you dont have a heap of unused wires laying around.
Ha mines a Shaw case and PSU, good to see i got quality.
it would be ticking really fast which sounds like a grinding sound unless the fans spinning slowly
he mentioned that he tapped it before and the sound stopped... if it was a bearing the fan wouldnt be spinning at all when he tapped it?
Nah this sound is pretty loud and its definallty a grinding sound.
And the case cost 70 thank you very much![]()
