Default How do you "link" (html)

I'm still a bit of a html novice, but i am trying to create links. Instead of just typing an address and having it show up, i wanna do the link thing where you type the address and have it come up as "click here"(as an example).
Heres what im doing and it just dosnt work, and i cant see what im doing wrong, that should look like a link? anyone able to point out the problem.

That looks like good code. What program/s are you using? Try it in a program that does WYSIWYG, and then have a look at the code it generates.

the only difference wold be if you want it to open in a new window then i would make it something like:

    <A HREF="http://www.google.com" TARGET="_blank">Click Here For Google</A>

or if you want to add a tool tip for the link:
<A HREF="http://www.google.com" TITLE="This will take you to the main google site">Click Here For Google</A>

if the link isn't working may be that it is in caps, but I don't think that makes a difference.

Thats the only thing, I could think of. Though HTML is not case sensitive so that would be od, and would have to come down to the program your using.

youre not trying to make a link on a forum are you? HTML would be disabled if thats the case. apart from that, your code should be fine

What i was actually trying to do was put a link in my signature like you and others have, Im only doing some test runs at the moment using google as the example, but when i do it in my signature in the "user CP" and then preveiw it all i get is the code showing up like it does here.
Would for some reason html be turned off in my signature

when editing your sig, look down at the bottom of the page. it says html is not enabled. you gotta use the URL tags [URL ] [/URL ]. use the buttons on the toolbar

ah ok then if using the url bbcode tags:

    the standard format is:
    [url ]http://www.sitename.com[/url ]

looks more professional if done like:

[url="http://www.sitename.com" ]clickity click here to go to this site[/url ]

just remove the spaces before the closing ] bracket and it will work within any bulletin board powered forum.
If that makes any real sense at all

You wont need the _blank or anything within forums as they auto open in new windows/tabs..
