    Default System Recovery

I've got an Acer Aspire 5612 Laptop which i've had for over a year now and its manage to build up a few errors and viruses that can't be fixed easily and its driving me nuts and i really want to reformat the whole thing from when i first got it. Its got Windows Vista with service pack 1?

I need to know if any-1 knows how to reformat/system recovery the whole laptop with out a CD

-The laptop DID NOT come with it's own recovery cd set for some reason =/

and i've tried using my g/f's recovery cd but no go =[

    thanks in advance

might be able to contact manufacturer with a serial or paperwork and see if you can get an oem copy.

Are you sure the recovery software isn't on a drive partition? It's not obvious most of the time, but if you grab the manual off the web somewhere it should be able to tell you. My last two toshys and Dell all have recovery partitions.

If you tried other people's recovery cd, it won't work mainly because it comes with different drivers as such.

I also hope that your partitioning table and data are still somewhat intact or otherwise you may lose the recovery partition.

You are correct, they don't come with Recovery CD's anymore. If you followed the instructions that came with it, you would have been told to create your own recovery disk set through a program in the start menu called something like "Create backup disk set"

If you haven't done it and don't have access to it now, you could either ring the manufacturer and get a replacement recovery CD sent out, or if you can get someone with a original vista CD (not a recovery disk), you can use that and use the OEM license sticker on the bottom of the laptop to install the windows. You will then need to download all the drivers from the manufacturers website for hardware such as sound, graphics, etc...

Also make sure you dont delete or format the partition with the old windows on it!!
This way if you need a driver for your ethernet or wlan to work you can navigate to the system drivers folder and recover the network driver.
Otherwise your up s**ts creek unless you can get drivers from someone else whose on the net to burn you a copy of the drivers. (unless it uses windows drivers for network)
