hi guys i just got a 865gdmp motherboard and i think its jetway brand.
i can only get 1 memory strip to work and it has 4 memory slots with maximum of 1 gig per slot making the board 4 gig maximum and i have 3 512mb strips and i want to make the 3 of them work. how do i do that
and later i want to get some 1 gig strips and make more than 1 work at the same time so i can have more than 1 gig.
can you give me some information on making more than 1 strip work in the board as the bios goes out and when i unplug the strips and only plug one in the first slot it works fine.
mboard takes DDR Ram and is a p4 2.8 gig
You cant mis match RAM in the channel.
You will have 2 channels, you cant put a 1gig and 512 in that channel, they both must be the same. Make sure all the sticks are the same speed to.
Do a process of elimination, remove the 1 gig and add a 512, if it works you know the stick works, then add a second 512 and see if it works, if it doesnt then put JUST that stick in the first slot and see if it works. You could have a dodgey channel or stick.
You WONT be able to run 3 512 sticks AND the 1 gig stick, so choose to run the 2 x 512mb in one channel, and the 1gig in the second channel and that should work.

Give the guy a break people.. sheesh..
are the sticks dual channel? as Tom said you only have 2 channels (2 slots/strips per channel). and that you can only have 2 or 4 sticks of ram.
easiest way to answer this is are there chips on both sides of the ram stick?
a quick look HERE shows that the board supports dual channel. might i suggest getting another 512mb stick?
or just getting by with 2 sticks?
also reading section 2-4 of the manual found HERE
you cannot have 3 sticks in the configuration, its 2 or 4.
given the current price of ram these days, grab yourself another stick to make it all work.
Good luck with the Jetway brand. They are so unreliable. The place that I used to work at had a box of about 50 failed jetway m/board sitting out the back. All random things like Blue Screens. Wouldn't boot, etc... They were the most unreliable m/board that I have ever come across. Mind you they could have changed it recent years.
