Post Windows 7 - Tester Opinions

    Windows 7 Beta

I encourage all Windows 7 Beta testers to let me know what you think about the upcoming version of Windows.

Your opinions on the new O/S will be helpful to all of us testing the new software.

Windows 7 is not yet a public release and is currently only available to Microsoft partners.

Any screenshots of Windows 7 are welcome for all to view.

I am currently testing the latest build, 6801 and it seems to be as stable as Vista service pack1.
There are many different features in this build as aposed to Vista which i'm still exploring

^^ As above, looks just like Vista with a new name to try and sell.
More like another service pack from the screen shots

Yes it looks like vista because I havent yet enabled the aero glass,
Also the new taskbar is hidden in the beta release, I will unlock it tonight and get pics up for yas.
Once the new taskbar is in place it looks nothing like vista except the basic Windows layout

I might have to have a go with it then...a mate has microsoft licenses and gets stuff to test....I must say thou, I like Vista. And I'm running it at the bottom end of the recommendations with just 1gig of ram and on a 2000+ AMD chip.

does microsoft pay you for debuging their softwear.

Same hardware requirments as Vista at this stage. It's due for release late 2009 which cant be confirmed, and by then, the hardware will be cheaper.

Something different which ive noticed is that the Windows Sidebar is now obsolete
Theyve built the gadgets into the explorer core to eliminate that process.

Main idea of the new O/S is to eliminate startup processors.
This will not only speed up boot time but will also make the system more stable.
In this bulld 8 they have only eliminated 2 or 3 processors so far.
If you want the Beta your best to wait until Microsoft brings out Windows 7 Beta1 to the public next year.

Anychace it will use less ram to power it like Win XP did.. My sister has a laptop and it's got 2gig ram and it uses around 35% to run Vista. I'm not in a hurry to move over yet.

This is what their hoping to do by removing most of the processors at startup it uses less ram, giving more memory to the programs you run.

Spell check? Not at all. Processors and processes are two different words and completely change the meaning of the post. Kind of scary if you're a beta tester for Microsoft and don't know the difference I think.

Apparently it still uses the old NT kernel, which is disappointing...I thought Windows 7 was supposed to do away with the NT kernel?
