HI Guys.
i have a laptop amd sempron 1.6-1.8 gig processor 40 gig hdd 256 mb ram brand is compaq v2000(v2417au). somedays not all its so slow i nearly cant use it or waiting so long for somethingn to load.
is there a way i can go into the bios and overclock the cpu so it shows more gig so its a little faster.
what type of memory strip does the compaq v2000(v2417au) Laptop take
and whats the maximum memory per slot.
whats the maximum hdd i can have in the laptop and what type of hdd is it.
is there any point me getting a bigger processor, dvd burner and bigger hdd and more memory for the current laptop or am i better with a new one as new ones with 2 gig ram cost about a grand and im wondering how much it would cost for me to bring my current laptop to eqivilent.
laptop works just so slow somedays
probably needs a new battery too
Overclocking laptops generally doesn't go to well, because you need good cooling to overclock, which laptops don't have.
Start by chucking in some more RAM, like 512mb or 1gb, it's so cheap these days and makes a huge difference. $50 spent and you'll have a computer that's 300% more responsive to use![]()
I have 4gb in mine, and it still goes into paging sometimes![]()
yeah RAM,, 9/10 times laptops have the RAM shared with the video, most times its only about 8MB, but sometimes higher like my DELL - 64MB.
Also maybe upgrade the HDD to one with more cache, don't really upgrade laptop much myself as I only use it for work, so not sure if you can buy HDD's with better cache for lappies, the ones I have here for external storage don't say anything about a cache on them so maybe not?
All in all you are probably better off getting a newer laptop as you said they come pretty geared up these days, ~$1000 will get you a real nice DELL or similar (yes I'm a DELL fan) Clickity
I'd say get a new Laptop, if you can afford it. You will have trouble upgrading most things in that Compaq laptop. It's an old unit (in laptop terms) and the best you may get away with is a memory upgrade, but that may cause you problems and you might have to get Compaq's own brand of memory.
