Default Whats the IE security issue thing about?

Just whatching the ABC news and they were saying that IE has a serious security flaw. Now while this is a long way from a first security issue for IE, why is this one so critical.
The recommendation was to immediatly stop using IE and get firefox or alike.

An IE Security Flaw So Serious, Experts Suggest Switching|Technologizer

Apparently its in all IE versions - even those as old as IE5, and even in the newest betas.

Agreed...still, its surprising to see how many people use IE6, just why I do not know.

I use IE..... Its convenient, but when I redo my computer Ill install Crome, no point atm though.

No idea on this "security flaw", I doubt its anything serious, considering all banks Ive seen use IE, and even when we deploy new PC's in banks and corporate sites, its IE.

I assume you're not allowed to use USB drives? (in which case you could stick Portable Firefox on a USB drive and use that)

I'm curious just what people do with their interwebs to make them vulnerable to so many viruses. I've been running IE6 for ages, while the other three people in my house are diehard Firefox fanatics - and two of them regularly have virus issues, sometimes every few weeks, which require reformats.

What the heck? I thought Firefox was meant to be secure?! We all run on the same firewall, through the same router, and we all have computers on 24/7. I'm sorry, until I begin to experience this "crippled browsing experience" in IE6, I'm not changing No viruses/malware/adware for six years and counting.

None at all? I really fail to believe that. Maybe none that are serious threats, but most spyware scanners pick up every single cookie that you've saved your details into as spyware.

I'm using Firefox, it's not perfect but it blocks out way more then IE.

That's because those two dowload bucket loads of porn.

I have been using firefox for a couple years now, but still keep IE for when others use my computer

Well believe it mate I'm talking about anything that affects my daily experience. Stuff that uses processing power, sends ghost packets, or interferes with my experience in any way. There may be a cookie somewhere that some spyware scanner would freak out at, but that's not really a big vulnerability issue is it We're talking about *.dll and *.exe files that are copied to your system32 folder.

I reformat once a year to keep my windows file system fresh and healthy - the only time I've had to break that routine is when my old hard drive decided to crash and burn, but I managed to recover that afterwards

I'm the most paranoid person in this house - I keep triplicate backups of everything - and yet I use those backups so infrequently
