i'm eventually going to build a carputer, got a hdd stacker in there for now, but when i do it's going to be one of two ways.
1) use my eee laptop stashed away with a vga/usb lcd touch screen mounted in the centre console
2) build a full fledged mini itx box.
either way i'm gonna need a cd/dvd drive. i just got hold of a apple g4 laptop that has a slot loader. can i use this, it doesn't have any external eject button, just gets signalled by the OS.
i've never used a slot loader before, so i'm not sure what's normal. also it's lappy, would it use laptop ide, or some weird new hardware connection?
The PowerBook and iBook slot load drives use normal laptop IDE connection, the same as tray loaders. They use the same form factor even, meaning that it will mount up to the case and everything exactly the same as a tray loader. the only difference is that the Apple drives don't have a faceplate, meaning it'll look like an old lady minus her false teeth.
