Default Red X's instead of pictures

    background:
ONLY when i use IE7 i get red X's instead of pictures.
its not just simply there are no pictures at all, it seems that it is only certain kinds of pictures which i think are .png files.
For example, my home page is ninemsn and that displays fine - no issues.
the main forum page of this website is fine too.
if i go to My Ride section for example and choose the VT-V2 section that too is fine EXCEPT for the 2 tags half way down the page.
it just shows up a red X and lists what the tags are (flyboy is jealous etc).

Ebay is the same, pictures are fine but when looking through the Motor section, anywhere that there is meant to be a "This car may be able for Vehicle Purcahse Protection Insurance" image is just a red X with those words written next to it.

I have tried everything listed in the link below EXCEPT for in the Advanced Troubleshooting Section - Method 2 - Toggle Images.exc as i dont think it applies to IE7 and i couldnt find it for the life of me.

everything listed in the link had NO effect at all.

Pictures are not displayed on Web sites in Internet Explorer

Im totally lost as to the cause, ive asked on other forums with little success, ive google searched numerous times (not just the link above) and have tried solutions offered but none have fixed the issue.
I have a feeling it is one of those simple fixes that turns out to be just a check box somewhere or something like that.
Any help in fixing this would be appreciated.

I hate those pesky issue's, my bet is virus, malware / spyware related somewhere along the lines.

When it gets to the point of not being able to easily correct itself, just re-image the machine, problem fixed in 5 easy minutes.

    ....

Pop-up blocker, got one? if so turn off

    Default IE
    Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset

Sometimes I can't view pictures and movies so I use Ccleaner to clear up the junk then works fine.
Got Ccleaner? if not give it a go, tis a good tool.

done the virus scans, used Ccleaner, right click doesnt work with making the image appear either.
i might try another virus cleaner later but i dont think that is the ultimate issue as it seems to be only .png files that arent working.
the Bookmark to AskJeeves and the Bookmark to Slashdot at the base of everyones message only appear in red X's as well.

it seems its like an ActiveX or related issue.

how do i re-image the machine?

ok that throws that theory out the window then..

couple of mates dont know about emptying trash or using another storage media etc and they always only have a few mb left, this can also cause the images not to d/l as there isnt enough room to cache them.

maybe try running a drive cleanup from programs > accessories > system tools and see how that goes maybe?

maybe try here or here for a solution

about all i can suggest really,, good luck

    Muddy..

It wasn't poor advice. Use Firefox. IE7 has numerous quirks that don't allow many pages to display properly, not to mention all the massive security holes it has. Installing firefox won't fix the issues in IE7, unless you actually use firefox instead of IE7.

The risk of your computer being compromised while using IE is tenfold over that of firefox. I can understand that change is difficult for some people to understand, but when companies like Google even distribute warnings against a browser you know that something is not right.

That being said, IE is notorious for having issues displaying PNG's, symptomatic of the issue you're describing. It cannot render transparencies in PNG correctly, and often not display the image at all. It could also be anti-virus/spyware/ad block software in action as well.
