One for you computer buffs to help me with.
I am a touch typist and frequently find that I can out-type my computer screen. That is, I can type quickly and the monitor will be six to seven words behind me. It takes several seconds to catch up to me but only if I stop. Otherwise, it is forever lagging behind my typing.
The PC has 2gb of RAM. Is this a RAM problem?. I don't have any other programes running at the same time. This thread is taking me a fair while to post because the problem keeps happening.
2gb shouldn't make it a RAM problem.
Do you use a wireless keyboard?
Does your computer struggle with anything else?
And are you typing at 200wpm?
whats your CPU usage when you are typing?
50LTRv8
yeah i would be looking at CPU usage. does your computer sound like its very busy (hdd noise), or just run slow all the time? then go through your processes in the task manager, and find which one is causing RAM/CPU usage

1991 Supercharged VN Berlina

keyboard might be faulty... try another one...
aZk.
type slower..... works for me. I can go flat out on the macbook but on this XP bucket i have to tone it down a bit. It varies though depending on where i am typing. I certainly don't get 'a few words' behind though, no more than one, usually just a few letters and seems to struggle the most when i use the space bar.
There's a good chance that you can get around this problem by changing the setting in your BIOS.
If your BIOS has the setting "Typematic Rate Setting" set to "Disabled", you may want to try the following:
Typematic Rate Setting: Enabled
Typematic Rate (chars/sec): 30 (or the maximum your BIOS supports)
Typematic Delay: 250 (or the minimum your BIOS supports)
If, however, your BIOS currently has the Typematic Rate already set to "Enabled", you might want to simply change that setting to Disabled.
You can also change the repeat setting in the properties of your keyboard within Windows, which may help a little
Good luck!
Repeat shouldn't be a problem, because you're pressing different keys. But the bios settings could help for sure. But yeah 50wpm shouldn't be a problem at all.
Thanx guys - I'll have a look at all of the suggestions and see what comes of it. Funny thing is, sometimes it works fine, like right now, other times it lags very badly.
perhaps your computer is running a virus scan or something similar in the background when it happens, as said check task manager when it happens and see what program is using all the cpu time up!
I dont know if it will help, but maybe a usb keyboard might help
Nah, there's definately something chewing up processing time there. Even a basic computer these days should be able to keep up with unlimited keyboard bashing. I can thrash a dozen keys at once, and the characters appear faster than I can see them.
ctrl+shift+esc and TAB to Performance - take a look at your CPU Usage History, and then view the change in the graph as youtype. My usage is 0-1% when idle, and has small spikes to 4-5% when I type quickly. And my system is 4yrs old and counting. If you have usage anywhere above that, then something funny is going on, and needs immediate attention![]()

Yeah, that sometimes happens to me when I got heaps of windows open and downloading stuff. (although I only notice it with the internet from memory)
Also happens sometimes on start up, if you try using the comp too quickly before the virus programs and stuff have had time to load.
So yeah, like the other guys have said, definitely something to do with your comp doing multiple tasks or something.
Maybe you have a virus? Or maybe you need to do a cookie clean or something.........not really knowledgeable on computers me lol.

hhhhmmmmmmmm out running ya keyboard. try putting some wheels on it and make sure you grease up them bearings sonnny if that fails and your still running faster than your keyboard then try putting a little engine on it may i suggest one off a radio controlled car or possibly a rotary.....
