What do you want to do with it?

    I'm using CS3 and a few others.

But I had Microsoft Picture It for ages.

Really depends what you want to be doing.

Adobe Photoshop CS4. Nothing even compares.

But if you want a free editor, that still has a pretty strong toolset, use GIMP.

Really depends what he wants to use it for though, there is no point downloading CS4 if you have no idea.

It certainly kicks ass, but it's intense, I'd only be using it to about 2% of its potential no doubt.

GIMP is great, you'll find you can do almost everything you can do in photoshop in GIMP, albeit it is far less user friendly than Photoshop. It may take a few more steps to perform a few tasks, and the plugins/filters support isnt as advanced. If you can use GIMP well, Photoshop will be a breeze.

I like Photoshop myself, though GIMP is good, despite having a weird interface.

I'm a Photoshop/Lightroom person myself. I've been using it for years, so the interface is familiar
