    Default Connecting PS3 to internet

I am pretty daft when it comes to these things...

I've got the PS3, a length of cat5 connected to the back and run to the EXT2 on my router... and the PC is connected to the router through EXT1 and is obviously connected to the internet.

Is it connected right and I just have the PS3 settings wrong... or have I fugged the whole show up?

Can you see what the settings are on the PS3?

Compare the ip settings on your pc and the PS3, the only thing that should be different is the IP address.

On your PC go start, run and type in cmd

you should get a black prompt, type in ipconfig /all and hit enter ( I am not sure how to get the settings on a PS3, I don't have one). Just compare the settings and the only thing that should be different is the last bit of the ip address.

If this looks o.k., you may have to setup a port forward on your router for the PS3. If this is the case look here

Still no luck... it keeps saying that it can't get an IP address.

This might sound stupid, but how do I config the router, like dijm8 said.. maybe it is blocking the port (or whatever it is called)

all i did when i first set up mine is plug an ethernet cable straight from the adsl2 modem into the ps3 and without doing anything else i was online making my psn profile.
have you tried plugging it in via the ext1 port instead of ext2 to see if that works?

Hi guys. I know this is an old thread but i'm also having trouble with this. I'm trying to go wireless and i'm just wondering if i need to load the router set up disc in the ps3 to get it to work?
I had to do this in my new laptop and was thinking i may need to do the same here as well. Any ideas?

No you can't use the router setup disk on the PS3. Just follow through the setup wizard as suggested under the settings menu in the PS3.
