due to my dvd rom not working anymore i am installing a sata dvd rom drive. However im just wondering if anyone knows if that when i decide to reinstall windows and start from scratch, would i need any sata drivers for the dvd rom to load windows? i know that you may need then with a sata Hard drive, but hen i installed windows on my sata HD it never needed them,
any help would be great
no idea, but if you have another pc with a working build of windows and a cd rom you could alwasy put the windows cd onto a usb and use that to boot/install the new one
that could be an idea.
anyway i ended up getting the drive working (the one that i thorght was stuffed) turns out the port on teh mother board is stuffed...or it aint active in bios...not sure....if teh ports stuffed i could always take it back to shop as its under a 3 year warrenty and i still have 6 months left
cheers
cool, pm me if you need a link to a howto build bootable usb tutorial, i've got a couple bookmarked.
Generally speaking, there should be no problem installing Windows from a SATA ODD (Optical Disc Drive), but this may depend on the age of your BIOS. As a rule of thumb, any BIOS 4 years old or less *should* give no problem for this action![]()
Do you mean if you are to re-format and install a new clean version of windows on, would you need drivers?
I have an ASUS S-ATA DVD burner and installed windows on a brand new clean computer.
