Ok have just got a new printer, a canon MP540 all-in-one. I am having trouble setting it all up. I have done exactly as the stup manual says, installed the CD with the drivers and let it run. Then once it gets to the connection screen I have connected the USB cable, and turned it on. It then just sits there for 5 mins or so and then just comes up with 'The printer is not detected. Check the connection'. The help canon offers is basically turn it off, unplug it and start again.

Ring them up and demand action
Unless thewas what they told you, then they are useless lol.Check the connection'. The help canon offers is basically turn it off, unplug it and start again.
I know it sounds stupid but have you reset your computer since you installed the drivers?
If so give it a shot at restarting ya computer and see what happens.
If not then I'm outta ideas
Problem solved, it was being fussy. Plugged the USB cable into one of the front ports and works fine.

It always the darn usb port lol
Have fun printing =P
had a similar problem with mine, it had a usb port on the front of the printer, and a usb-B port on the back. i was trying the one on the front for ages before i realised it was being picky.
They're just like the ones at he back of the pc, no real difference bar the fact they are at the front for easy access,,
There may have been some dust in the contacts? or cable not connecting properly?
Do you have any other USB stuff plugged into that port header on the back of the PC?
