I use Symantec AntiVirus Corporate 10 on my laptop, my old computer, and the family computer. It seems to do the job - pops up every now and then saying it fixed something
AVg full version FTW , Norton is the worst one
i use spybot- search and destroy, free program, scans everything for anything serious, never detected a virus/trojan yet, i cruise through the net with ease, if its something dodge, i just dont open it.

+1 for Sophos...we get it provided to us free of charge by the uni...its excellent. Uses very little system resources and seems to catch just about everything. Its just a shame that they only deal with corporations, and not end users, otherwise I'd have no problems with recommending it to just about anyone.
Other than that though, I use AVG...for free its pretty good, despite version 8 being a bit heavier on system resources than the earlier versions...
