Default Is this comp anygood for me?

Hi, i am thinking about getting a new comp(well new for me). I will mostly use it to websurf and use a couple of programs like dvdshrink and decrypter. These are the specs
HEWLETT-PACKARD, HP COMPAQ DC7100 SFF(DX878AV) DESKTOP, BLACK, 1 X INTEL(R) PENTIUM(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHZ 3.20, 1024MB, 40 SPEED 40 SPEED HP DVD WRITER 400, 0 KBMB 82915G INTEGRATED GRAPHICS CONTROLLER, NO OPERATING SYSTEM, NETXTREME BCM5751 GIGABIT ETHERNET PCI EXPRESS, ONBOARD SOUND CARD, FDD, 4 USB PORTS, 1 FIREWIRE PORTS, KB, MOUSE, POWER CORDS, HARD DRIVE REMOVED, MINOR SCRATCHES ON CASE
sorry about the caps but thats how it is advertised.
Also what would it be worth landed at home?
I know it has no os but i have been thinking about trying out linux annd i also have a fresh xp pro coa to use.

200 bucks maybe? However it'd prob suit your needs, and definitely plenty to run linux on.

yeah as bezz said $200 tops..

also seeming as though its a p4 3.2 it most likely will have Hyper Threading (virtual second CPU Core), check it has a monitor icon where there isnt a spot to plug it in on the back, then if need be you have the option of upgrading the graphics at a later stage for that little more guts.

Hi all, i got a 160gig hd and put in. I then installed xp, with ethernet cable hooked up.
I then went to go on the net but couldnt. So i set the ip adress to the correct ones(i have swaped the cable from this comp and used this comps adress).
I set the connection to show if its connected. It says its connected at 400mbps.
I then tried to repair the connection. It came up with" failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection.Cannot proceed."
I havent come accross this before.
I always seem to have problems with new net connetions,or after formatting. I have done everything that was ever necessary before. I have been told that my modem is the reason that auto detect settings doesnt work. Cant think of the brand of modem atm i am in my shed.

    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers Shane

An update, i have been googling my problem. One site says
If all you have is "1394 connection", then you haven't installed your motherboard and/or network drivers.
. This is what i have.
How do i work out what drivers i need? I just got this comp and dont know exactly what is in it. I might try and transfer everest onto it and run that.
    cheers shane

    thanks govz.

thats a exe. file, so i assume i just transfer it onto the comp and run it? then everything should be all good.
i always forget to look at the pc manufactures site, i always go to the manufacturer of the piece ie broadcom in this case.

    cheers shane
