    Default Xbox 360, freezing and slowwww, im gonna explode

    fellow jc's

    had my xbox since christmas,
    go to play a quick sesh of halo before i went to bed tonight and my xbox really isnt in good shape at all.....

    i turned it on,
    it was really slow,
    screen went black,
    turned it off,
    and now whenever i turn it on, it freezes after being incredibly slow


    the fan has also become dramatically louder and it sounds a little cluncy,


    yep my xbox is on its way out, expecting red rings soon.


    so annoyed, and really dont feel like waiting 4 weeks or wateva for repairs. its f*&%en holidays, prime time to use the damn thing


    mm havin a bit of a RANT but what do you expect, damn microsoft

    You've only had it 4 months, send it in under warranty.

    You can book it in online and the turn around time is quite good. They'll probably send you a couple of months of Xbox Live Gold for free too.

    Chances are its just a dud console. So they'll probably replace it with a brand new one.



    They'll tell you this, but make sure you don't send your HD in with it.

    360's are known for the cpu to come loose. The clips that hold the cpu in are weak.

    If its still under warranty take it back.

    OLD problem. Hence why i said its a dud console. For the last year they've had new components in them.

    The turnaround isnt that bad, as stelthy said, dont send your hard drive in with it, and they will send it back with a month of xbox live gold too

    Other than the stupid indian chick ****ing up my email and address when i did mine, i cant fault microsoft on their warranty work

    Where did you buy it from? You might have a good chance at actually returning it to the store if it is that new.

    If you cant do that send it to microsoft, use the online request system, its much faster, you dont speak to an indian and the usual turnaround time is less than 2 weeks.

    Here is some additional info that one of the community reps has said that will help you:

    To avoid delays especially in shipping it back once repaired, here are some guidelines on how to register your console correctly.

    - Really, REALLY important: Go to this site to verify if your post code matches your suburb.
    - Make sure you DO NOT enter your suburb in the address line 2. Enter it in the Suburb field instead.
    - Guys please don’t use P.O. Boxes as we can't send your console to a P.O. Box.

    Note also, that you can check the status of your repair on our online repair site as well.

    It sounds like you just had a bit of bad luck and picked up a dud, I would defnallty try the store you got it from, if its under a certain time period EB Games will take it back and just swap it over so will Dick Smith, not to sure on another places.

    I sent mine last Wednesday, rang them yesterday and they still didn't have it in their workshop. But i'll hit this thread back when i get it back so you guys know how long it too.

    I got mine back in about 10 days I think, had to send it in twice though

    When mine had the error, i bought an Elite. I found out last week that the E74 error is now covered under warranty, so i'll have 2 when its fixed!

    Scored dvd player for my bedroom now haha

    Had mine for a year now and not had any problems, except the wife telling me to get off it all the time..... I dont think that's covered under warranty.

    stuff like this happens when microsoft raced ahead of themselves to get this console done asap!
    build quality of the PS3 is much better, pity, because X360 has some killer games

    at least it'll still be under warranty, book it in asap!

    Did you even read what he said? Its 4 months old, so any problems from a console 3 years ago have been rectified. Its just a dud console.

    Head over to the PS3 forums to see just how good the build quality of them is You'll be shocked when you see they have the same problems (just as any console does)

    Mine went for about 18 month, and I kept hearing stories about RROD but thought I must have a good one, then it happened, sent it in and it came back, then within 30 minutes of starting it up it RROD'd again.

    Sent it back the second time and it's been fine ever since. That was about a year ago I think.

    They cover RROD, and now E74 for 3 years, beyond the regular 1 year for everything else.

    Your 10 day turnaround was probably because the place they repair them is there (just realised when i saw your location). They quoted me 4 weeks (not that it bothers me, i have the elite now haha)

    My first console i bought release day broke once got it fixed, broke twice got it fixed and then it broke a 3rd time (dvd drive this time not rrod) and i had the same issue as you got it back and an hour later it RROD. Anyway i sold that one and went a got an elite which eventually i sold.
    i'm on my 4th console now and i only ever had issues with the first console.
    Sometimes mine are on almost all day everyday for a week and i never have any issues havent got on much lately no new games to play

    I honestly don't think they actually attempted to fix it the first time. I expect they turned it on, and it just happened to work at the time, then said "it's fine" and sent it back. There was no evidence the case had been opened the first time round, whereas there were minor scuff marks at the back the second time where they use the tool to open it.

    Fingers crossed it's fine from now. It wasn't a release day console, it was about 1 year post-release. If it does explode I won't be too worried, I'm looking for an excuse to get a newer revision because they are quieter and cooler

    the xbox decided it was going to work today,
    it was on pritty much on all day with no dramas ( as little brother had a friend over), and i played it for about an hour aswell, i just tried to play it for a second time and its freezing and really slow again,

    Weird as!!!!
    owell im sending it in soon, but really cbf sending it in for ages


    they better not just pass it on, and not attempt to fix it, (any way i can check if its been opened, besides screws?)

    Send it in, it'll only get worse. There are labels on the back, around the seam where the two halves of the case meet. When I got mine back the second time you could see where they had inserted the tool, the labels were slightly scuffed.

    The RROD issue (and maybe the E74 issue) was usually caused by dodgy solder joins between the GPU (graphics card) and the motherboard, after lots of cycles of heating up and cooling down the joins would break, and you'd get the RROD. Sometimes, after cooling the joins would fix themselves, but not for long. Get it fixed properly.

    After it went in the second time, I Googled around and read stories about folks in the US getting free games etc when they got really cranky, I was almost hoping it would die again so I could try my luck.

    That said, I think it's good of MS to extend the RROD warranty to 3 years. A lot of companies wouldn't do that, it takes balls to admit you ****ed up. In PR terms, I think they've done as well as they could out of it.
