Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, 'My name is Ray, and I am an alcoholic'?

I put HPR10 into mine the other week and i noticed that the engine was noisy too and the oil light would flicker and stay on a bit longer say 3- 5 sec on cold start up.. Also ever now and then i would get a noisy lifter tick for a couple of min then it would go away & not come back for a day or 2...

Looks like i need to change the oil..

was it fully synthetic HPR10? The fully synthetic oils are much thinner and therefore you tend to here more engine clutter. Try using HPR10 10w50 Semi Synthetic. It's what i'm using in my VZ Sv6 and I got no problems.

I have used Penrite HPR oils for years in a lot of my previous cars, but have been a bit reluctant to use in my VX SS, if you have a read over on the LS1 forums there are quite a few negative reviews about Penrite and LS1's. I notice on the Penrite website they have now changed their HPR range to full synthetic for the HPR0, HPR5, HPR10 and HPR15. The semi synthetic is no longer listed.

If you like the Semi Syn stuff stock up on it while you can. Its been deleted. We dont sell it anymore and we cant get anymore.

Ive been running Penrite SIN15 (also been deleted) in my car for a while. I find 10 weights at just to thin. My car HATED Nulon though.

Yeah they used to have a seperate brand called SIN which was their full synthetic line.

Thats been integrated into the regular oil line and theyve got a new Racing-esque branded oil, called 10 Tenths or some shit. I havent given it a try yet... maybe next service.

The LS1 forums shout Castrol Edge 10w60 from the rooftops. Its a good oil, it is. However, lets face it, most the LS1s are now in the 175-200,000 km range and that oil is starting to get thin. I used it when I got my car and it was ok, but now its at 185,000...its a bit noisy.

The LS1 is weird. Its a bit hit and miss, finding which oil your car likes is one of the joys of owning it
